My friends are lesbian, so the ceremony has no legality to it, but they are going all out and having a "traditional wedding"

Would it be tacky to buy a black graduation robe to wear? I could get a decent one on ebay fairly reasonable. I am not looking to spend alot of money either.

I was thinking a simple black dress. Any thoughts.

As a lesbian who is having the same type of ceremony next year, I have to say please, please, please DO NOT show up in a graduation gown. That's just plain tacky! Wear a nice, comfortable, black pantsuit or ask the couple what they had in mind.

I think the black dress would be better than the graduation robe. Some people might see it as mocking the church if you try to look too much like a priest. The female JP that did my Mom's ceremony wore a nice pantsuit.

Talk with the bride/bridegroom and see what they want. She may have some ideas of their own.

A grad robe is just stupid. Wear a nice suit.

What would really be tacky is using God's name in vane in this mock ceremony.

I would talk to the couple and find out if they have anything in particular to wear.
