In years past, Maytag commercials have shown the repairmen looking bored or needing work. The point being that Maytags are so well made, that they don't break down and the repairmen therefore don't have any work. The recent commercials are a twist on this same theme - there's no work repairing Maytags, so they have to repair other things to keep busy.

Maytag brand supposedly never breaks, therefore the Maytag repair man doesn't ever have to repair a Maytag appliance, just all the other brands in the home that don't work.

Nothing, that's the point. It broke because it is not made by Maytag. The Maytag repair man is bored, so he fixes it even though it is not his job, just to have something to do.

I thought I was missing something, too. The least they could have done was make him "hot" like the Diet Coke guy years ago.
