How can anyone possibly think there's factual evidence for Genesis but not evolution?

I earlier asked a question about science compared to the bible.

One of the answers was this:
"Science has not proven anything! I have studied science - science means knowledge, and the stuff they are pushing in your so called science text books is hogwash. There is no working models for evolution. If anyone cares to visit www.talkorigins.org they will find mountains of factual evidence, all quite credible, in support of evolution. Tens of thousands of pages of evidence.

Where's the credible evidence for Genesis?

As for why am I here, someone needs to counter these bizarre opinions!

The Catholic Church does not take the stories of creation in the Bible literally. Catholics believe the book of Genesis tells religious truth and not necessarily historical fact.

One of the religious truths is that God created everything and declared all was good.

Catholics can believe in the theory of evolution. Or not. The Church does not require belief in evolution.

On August 12, 1950 Pope Pius XII said in his encyclical Humani generis:

The Teaching Authority of the Church does not forbid that, in conformity with the present state of human sciences and sacred theology, research and discussions, on the part of men experienced in both fields, take place with regard to the doctrine of evolution, in as far as it inquires into the origin of the human body as coming from pre-existent and living matter - for the Catholic faith obliges us to hold that souls are immediately created by God.

The Church supports science in the discovery of God's creation. At this time, the theory of evolution is the most logical scientific explanation. However tomorrow someone may come up with a better idea.

As long as we believe that God started the whole thing, both the Bible and modern science can live in harmony.

Are you just trying to tire me out? I honestly write back to sooo many of these. I lay out the reasons for believing in what I believe in. I show mainstream articles that take liberties with the facts. But when you keep asking over and over and over, I get to the point where I say, I can't keep doing this. This is what you need to do. Visit a creation website. Hear what they have to say. Then go back and read talk origins. I am sure they post some sort of response. Read their response carefully. Make sure they have facts to back up how they are responding. Sometimes their response is simply," we have a plausible explanation to explain that." rather than hard facts that agrees with them. Be discerning as to which is the case. Then go back and see if there is another response to that explanation. Sometimes it goes back and forth and it takes some time to get to the bottom of what people really know about a topic. I promise you if you do a little back and forth work, you will find that both sides actually have good points. I may be a little pre-disposed to believe in Creation, but I am telling you with a straight face, I have done research on both sides, I consider myself good educationed (just kidding) and I do not think there has been any good evidence to suggest the creation account did not occur the way the Bible says it did. I would go into specifics, but like I said...I am so tired of writing the same stuff. One last thing. Just reading talk origins is like only listening to fox news. You need to balance it with other sources. There may be more than one explanation for a set of data, but with talkorigins you ONLY hear one side or why creationists are wrong without hearing a proper response from the other side. 'bout time someone asked this question. There are things that have been found that are similar in human/ape behavior . They are actually finding more and more behaviors in apes that are similar to ours. They say that apes and humans are socially similar as well as having cognitive abilities.. The Genesis account is scientifically and biologically impossible. Also, the concept of Adam and Eve is a Christian ideal. If and ONLY if the theory of Adam and Eve is accurate. How so? Christianity is only 2009 years old. Adam and Eve are a millions of years old. This doesn't make sense. And, Eve would have had to commit incest for the human race to continue, if Adam, Eve, Cain and Abel were the only humans. Incest is a sin, so that is contradictory.

Factual, historical evidence for Genesis and Exodus? Hardly anything in the Old Testament or New Testament is factual. Most all of it is a compilation of books written by men, stories stolen from previous religions like Cybele and Osiris, and a lot of forged letters and changed documents. Word of God? Are they referring to Christ as God? The actual Greek said Born of a Woman and was changed to Born of a Virgin to deify Christ. Most evidence is that he never exhisted. All the miracles that he performed were never told in ANY historical reference from historians of his age. The Romans kept very thorough records which are still around and there is NO mention of a trial or Pilate washing his hands to crucify him. The best references on this are Charles Guignebert's book "Jesus" which is out of print but available at many libraries. He was considered the greatest authority on religion and taught at the Sorbonne in Paris during the50's. The second and most dynamic book just written is "The Laughing Jesus" by Timothy Freke and another author. This shows exactly how the Old Testament wascompiled (certainly not by God) and the New Testatment and takes on the Koran along with Muhammed. I have asked the authors to do a panel show on TV with leaders of the churches to put an end to 2,000 years of lies and treachery which burned the libraries of Alexandria and Byzantium and destroyed 32,000 volumes in the square in Spain of the truth!! The church would love to keep people in the dark, but fortunately they have begun to wake up, question, research and the documented truth is there. Some other good books are "The Vatican Exposed" and "Deceptions and Myths of the Bible" by Lloyd Graham. I realize this is a very touchy subject and some people will never wake up, but they should at least read and then compare. I believe that God is truly in each and every one of us and that he has given us a brain to us. If we fail it is our own undoing. I feel that God is a power in the Universe not a duplicate of us as we like to believe that we are created in his image. In earlier writings before the bible was compiled it spoke of Gods plural and God had a female mate. Her name started with A, but I cannot remember what it was. Just get the books and read and learn. Religion brings control and that was the key that made governments and churches push lies upon the people. There have been more people killed in religious wars than all the world wars put together. This is why I love John Lennon's song "Imagine".

There is no evidence for Genesis. They are lies started by liars, and then passed along by scientifically illiterate zealots who do not care if they are lies or not because they believe that that there is only one truth; and that truth is to be found in a collection of folktales with historical origins in the Semitic tribes of illiterate semi-nomadic goat herders who lived in the Middle East region thousands of years ago that they call the Bible.

They are clueless regarding science and the theory of evolution. They are, in fact, even less informed than those who lived in Darwin’s time. It is interesting that when Darwin published ‘Origins’, there was no great outrage among the general population. The ‘fact’ that species evolve from one form into another was well known from fossil evidence and the taxonomic study of living species. Darwin’s theory explained the mechanism that drove the evolutionary process.

Evolution is the most powerful general explanatory model (theory) in all of science. Physics has nothing like it. It is the biological equivalent of the unifying theory that physicists seek. If evolution is false, then everything we think that we know about life, nature, and the physical universe is (at best) called into question, and more likely is wrong. This would destroy the integrity of the scientific method itself and leave us in the position of not only being ignorant of the world, but of having no objective means of ever learning about the processes that drive the known and knowable universe.

More specifically, every life science (including medical science) and every science with disciplines that link to biological science is meaningful only if the theory of evolution is correct. Without evolution, every life science collapses and physicians of modern medical science are no different than Witch Doctors and those who practice Voodoo. Every Creationist who goes to a doctor or hospital for medical care is a lying hypocrite because they are putting the fruits of evolution above the teachings of their God.

You should keep in mind that there is more than one way to look at evidence. Many evidences that atheists give for evolution could be interpreted as evidence for either creation or evolution. For instance, similarities among organisms could point to a common ancestor or a common designer. Which is it? I believe in a common designer. Evidence for Genesis? Two pieces of evidence are the faultlines where the earth broke open at the time of the flood and the subsequent layers formed by the water moving over the land for about a year. Charles Darwin himself said that in order for his evolution theory to be valid that geologic discovery shoud reveal transitional animals.That was over a hundred fifrty years ago and still there has not been one single transitional animal found. Simply put there is zero evidence for evolution, and a mountain of evidence for the Biblical Creation account. I am in the creation camp .One of the best evidences for creation is Noah's flood. Since we have found that the account of God destroying the earth by water is true,( seashells on Mt. Everest and etc.) then we have every reason to also believe the creation account is equally as valid. Peter the apostle predicted that many would deny creation and the flood in the last days.....

Dear friend, From the wording of your question it is obvious which camp you belong to. I want you to know that the God who created you loves you and wants you to know the truth. Would you consider praying? Tonight go into your room or another quiet place alone. Turn off all electronics,radios, TV and etc. Get down on your knees and humble yourself before the God of the universe. He is worthy of your praise and humbleness. Close your eyes, and from the deepest recesses of your heart and soul , cry out to God . You are dealing with people that deny the facts because it does not fit in with their view of the world. No matter how much evidence you provide they will never believe, because they CAN'T believe that they might be wrong. They are completely brainwashed by their religious propaganda. There is NO POINT in debating them, because logic is something that will NEVER sway them. It is good that you are standing up for the truth, but these people will be around for a long time. The only reason I respond to them is not to convince them, but to convince others that they are not alone in thinking these people are completely lost when it comes to reality.

Heres what I know- Science sucks- I am a man of God- I know that when I look at science non of it makes since. I dont believe that we evolved from anything not even monkey, if we did- then why are there monkeys on earth??? Even though they have similar body parts dosnt mean we evolved from them- And these theories don't give a reasonable explanations for how the earth was started or "created"- but in fact I believe that God created earth because when I pray- my prayers are answered... and not just silly prayers... Using science we've found earth has been around for more than a million years. Using the bible we don't really know how long except for some people claim that the bible tells us that earth was around for either 4,000 or 6,000 years. Which one sounds more correct? Science.
