I'm a pagan and a Witch and I do not "serve" any "god." What I do is take care of Mother Earth as best I can, and the benefit I get from it is the knowledge that I am part of the healers and the protectors of our world. I get a lot of personal benefit from my beliefs, because, as a pagan (and Witch), I garden so much , I am on a first name basis with my earthworms! Truly, I love exploring the natural world, and the benefits I get in this life are immense. As a Witch, I am becoming more and more in touch with my inner self, the reality of what makes me me, and the benefit I get from being with other Witches and pagans who reject the patriarchal reign that has been in control of our political and social worlds for far too long. I benefit personally from promoting female power.
It is a great path to take, highly recommended!
Bright blessings!

I do not serve god/dess. God/dess does not need me or anyone else to bow down and worship him or her.
I live my life in service to others, to the best of my abilities to be all that I can be so that my actions show god/dess to the rest of the world.
Since god/dess is a part of me, my joy and fulfillment allows god/dess to experience these same things on the physical plane. Which is also why I have been rewarded greatly upon this physical plane, with both material goods and creative abilities, so that god/dess can also experience these things through me.
So in a round about way, in regards to your question, I have benefited financially, materially and spiritually from doing what god/dess expects me to do, not by serving god/dess.

As a Pagan *and* a witch, I do not "serve" any God/dess(es). I honor them. There is a difference.

In this life, I get the benefits of having God on my side and here to help me through the tough times that I face. His spirit lives in me and gives me peace that surpasses all my human understanding.

among other things, that smug sense of complete self satisfaction you can only get by being an absolute goody-goody. And, of course that smug sense of complete self satisfaction that only comes from knowing beyond all shadow of a doubt that you did, indeed, choose THE ONE TRUE God and that all those other people out there got it wrong.
All other benefits are reserved for the next life.

A point of reference like on a compass. It helps me know when I have gotten off track.
Smug self satisfaction... I am one of the chosen ones.
I could go on but I don't want anyone to feel bad about being left out.
