They date for years because they know they're not meant to get married....the relationship is good for as far as it goes.

You know i had to read this question a couple of times,iv'e just had a ten year relationship got two beautifull children and we didn't marry. My relationship is coming to its end now i have fallen out of love and am unhappy. All i can say is we didn't marry because we never felt it would change anything never been a dream of mine to get married or anything,so we just didn't.Perhaps was for the best as we are currently going through a seperation.Someone said to me you will want to get married when you truly meet someone that you fall madly in love with. Found this hard to take because i did love my partner very much and do still have love for him but not in love anymore.I really can say i won't be adding to the statistics of people who do this but an earlier answer i read saying about wasting time is probably the reason.Marriage isn't how it used to be divorce seems to be far more common! nothing lasts forever hey? or does it??
hey have a star intresting question!!

I have seen this as well and my theory is that after spending 10-15 years with someone and then splitting a person may feel that those years were wasted so they must hurry up and get married before another 10-15 years of dating goes by. It may be that while they were dating that long they were hoping to get a proposal (deeper commitment)...just my theory. Good luck with your question.

Sometimes the person you were with for so long wanders off the path from you. And in the end, you realize they were not the one meant for you. There is a time and place for everything and sometimes, people come into our lives for a season -- for us to learn something, to strengthen our inner selves and then they move on. So you must do the same for yourself. Pick up any strewn pieces that were left behind. Throw the bad away, keep the good and be open for that special someone who is meant for you to come your way.

One has to consider that the first relationship just wasn't solid enough... neither wanted to commit. Perhaps after all the experience of being with one person, he or she finds someone they like even more... so without hesitation they want to tie the knot.

They probably get into a rut then realise that they don't want to waste anymore time on one another. Finally the penny drops that they are not as compatible as they thought and find themselves separating
