The law says yes. If you say No, how do you distinguish them from criminals who've done their time? Does anyone get a chance at redemption?

Rachel, your statement is technically correct but read my question carefully...I never said that all were Mexican. (I'm sure any Europeans who got amnesty in 1986 have been completely forgiven)

Rachel (again): You miss my point. There wouldn't be such a problem if all of the illegals were white. The fact that many of them are Mexican causes so many people to get upset.

Not all illegal aliens are Mexican.

However, yes they were. We give criminals a chance at redemption all the time. Parole is one such example.

Edit: I fail to see that in your statement. The only word used is Mexican, which is not a synonym to illegal alien. Had you simply used to phrase illegal alien or something similar it would be a different story.

I was a kid in 86 but if you have been made a citizen I personally can live with that mostly because I have no choice and I am sure many thought what they were doing at the time was a good thing BUT 1986 did nothing to stop the illegal immigration problem in fact it turned the problem into what we have today, 12+ million more illegals demanding to be a citizen. Can we learn from our mistakes or are we destined to repeat them.

We know that majority of Illegal immigrants in America are Mexicans. We see them on tv entering the country everyday. My mom is an AMerican Citizen and she filed for all of her kids and grand children. She never broker the law. What we need to understand is that American all ready have a system that gives citizenship for those who wants it but they have to follow the law. What the problem now is the illegal immigrants want to enter the country yesterfday and bully the Americans to give them what they want and we won't. If my mom follow they law and others why can't the illegals follow the law. How can they come into someone else country and say Americans donot want to work if we donot want a certain job then who have been doing them before they took over the jobs we have. What piss me off is when they say Americans are repeating slavery How dare them. Slaves had to fight for our freedom although we were American citizens. We never came to America we never jump the fence and enter freely then say its slavery.
I think Bush need to just quit his job and get out of office because this Bill WILL NEVER PASS. If I ever find out my congressman voted for the bill even if it doesnot pass I will vote to get that person out of office

they want to keep the benefit of their crime. that isn't repentance, now is it?

I never thought about them really, but I understand that up to a third of our illegals today are kin of those who came illegally and got amnesty in 1986, and that those amnestied gave them a base, further hurting our country beyond what they did themselves.

I'd have to know individual people and circumstances, but that doesn't sound like redeeming behaviour to me.

Amnesty is STUPID !!! If the government is gonna give amnesty to 11 to 20 million illegal aliens, who broke the law, by avoiding the INS, then the government should also give amnesty to all tax evaders, stop sign runners, speeders, litterers, and shoplifters.
