Over 90% of Americans claim to be a Christian, but in reality less than 40% really are, I'm not saying your friends aren't Christians, but to truley be a Christian and to understand God's word, you need to be in the Bible daily, try questioning your friends and family and see what they think about reading the Bible daily! Many people who are Atheists say they have no God, but truley, they look for someone or something larger then them and so they look for anything they can, and most start with the Bible!

I don't know of any Atheists who have read the whole book cover to cover. Most read Genesis and the Gospels, and maybe Revelations, because when read out of context it makes Christians look Kooky.
When Christians read the bible we don't race to get to the end so we can brag about actually having done it on the internet. We enjoy the word of God and reflect on it. When I read my Bible I meditate in silence to clear my mind of worldy concerns before even opening the book. Then I read a passage while praying for spiritual discernment from the Holy Ghost. Then I reflect on the larger biblical context of the passage and how it fits in with the rest of what I know about God's word. Then I reflect on how the message relates to me personally and the world I live in. Finally a move on to the next passage and repeat the process.
Obviously the Christian way takes longer. Its easy to read the Bible if you don't believe it. However if you hear the actual words of God in the Bible and it fills you with joy that you sing to the heavens and brings you to you knees weeping with sorrow you will read it more slowly and carefully.
Before I was a Christian I read the Bible once cover to cover. It didn't take that long. I am re-reading it now and I am lucky to get through a page a day.

I read the Bible through for the first time when I was twelve years old. I couldn't put it down, literally...I was totally fascinated. OK, so the "begats" are not so fascinating, and Leviticus, Numbers and Dueteronomy are drier than dust...but the main story is a heartpounding page-turner.
I've read it again, about once every year, for every year I've lived since then.
I am fifty six years old.
I still find the begats boring and I still get bogged down at Leviticus, Numbers, and Dueteronomy. But I still get a tremendous thrill when I read the story.
It is hard for me to believe, literally, that it wasn't all put together by one man...because it all fits together so beautifully. The history is accurate...at least, acheologists seem to think so. The poetry is awe-inspiring. There is practical advice on every subject you could think of.
Of course, parts of it were troubling...for instance, Paul's problems with women...or, at least, Paul's imagined problems with the fairer sex...until I studied the history of the time, and realized that Paul was actually a pretty forward-thinking fellow.
He didn't think a woman should preach...heck, most men didn't think they belonged in the worship service at all! He told women they ought to be submissive to their husbands, true...and then he told husbands to cherish their wives as Jesus does the church, even to the point of dying for them! What is more, he gave men and women equal rights in the marriage bed! Unthinkable!
I am guessing that most of the atheists you know that have "read the Bible" have checked it out with an atheist web-site, so they can find all the "contradictions" in it...in fact, I'd be willing to bet next week's pay check that most atheists who have read the Bible either were forced to go to Bible study as kids, and that is where they "read" it, or are reading it currently in order to find "ammunition" to use against Christians. Obviously, when you read it, you understand it one way, and when I read it, I understand it differently. It can't be that there are different words in mine than there are in yours. It probably isn't because we disagree about what is "literal" and what isn't. I'd say there must be something...or Some One...guiding us.
Or maybe only one of us....
I'm sure that you are a fine, intelligent, good-hearted young lady, whose moral standards are, at least in the world's opinion, high. You may have a higher I.Q. than I do...or not. I don't know.
But I do have one thing going on for me that you have not.
I know Whom I have believed.
And I do pray that one day, you will get to know Him, too.....

I've read the bible, but I don't know it well enough to quote it.
I do, however, know that it is filled with outrageous nonsense and absurd contradictions. The reason I've read it is because in order for me to intelligently debate against theism (Christianity in this case) I need to both understand what the Christian believes/bases their claims on, and I also need to be able to use the book against them. The bible is a great tool for proving the absurdity of a god.

You don't have to read the Bible to be a Christian. You don't even have to go to Church. All you have to do is give your life to Jesus. As he gave his to us.Once you do He will guide you.It is better if you read it and know what Jesus' life was all about and to know Gods word. But I don't think it is a required read.In fact I'm one of "Those" people.I went a long time before I read it.Did that make me less a Christian? NO,I gave my life to Christ a long time ago.Now was the time in my life that I needed to pick it up and read it and he has been guiding me through it.And my faith is even stronger now that I have.So don't think you are all knowing with your statement.Because you still will never understand until its too late .I pray the Lord will open your eyes and you will see the glory of it all before that happens.
God bless
There is room for one more!

I have had lying athiests tell me they have studied the Bible, or claim to have read it. Yes, sadly, when they are questioned, they are lying and just trying to act like they have substance for their unbelief.
I have done some questioning among Christians, and they all study the scriptures, in church like Jesus told the early church, and 10 % have read it word for word Genesis to Revelation.
But, just to set things straight, reading the Word does not make one saved. It is their heart condition. And God only calls those of a humble heart. Jesus says the Enemy plants his people in the church.
Did you get that, God calls people who obey him (see John 3: 19-20) and the Devil causes trouble.
And that is why there is so much religious problems in the world--Satan has baptized his agents in the church. But God will call His people out of corrupt churches, and you can be one of them.

You may have read it, but you do not understand it. Thats why you bash God, have no belief in God. . I have read the bible completely numerous times since I was old enough to read. I have understood the bible since I was an early teen. Why because the Holy Spirit guides one when they are reading the bible so they have a complete understanding of the Word of God. Non believers just read it, they dont undertsand it's true meaning, and never will until the accept God and repent.A believer lives the Word, there is a difference

You need to define what you mean by Christian. Are you talking about Catholics, Mormons, Jehovah's Witnesses or Fundamentalists seperately or lumping them all into one group?
There are some misconceptions of what a Christians really are. So a clearer definition of what you believe a Christian to be would be helpful.

Better question... why do atheists always attack Christians? If they go to church every Sunday they´ve probably heard way more of the Bible than you have. What´s better... a good lecture by a good professor or reading an organic chemistry book?
Are you trying to say you´re more Christian than Christians? I don´t see the point in your questions, or even what you´re trying to say. I also believe that there are way more Christians than atheists who read the Bible...
