I have two cats. Both female. I noticed about six months ago the older one, whos two was liking off her fur. Brought her to the vet and she was given a cortisone shot. (She's been back for two more since the firt shot). Well, she hasn't stopped and it's ony gotten worse. I bombed our house, and applised frontline. She still does it. Now, noticed the other cat has bald patches. She jusy turned one. My cats get along with each other. They are from seperate litters, but the older one has always treted the other one as her "baby." What can be the cause of the problem. They are going back to the vet, yet again this week, but it seems like everything that I do does not work. Please help!

The older cat started licking on her stomach, but is now licking fur off on her tail, back legs and sides. Shes completley bald on her stomach. The other cat licks mostley on her stomach, but the hair by her tail is bald, and she starting on the back of her legs now.

I have been hearing this a lot on Yahoo answers. What cat food are you feeding these guys. I wonder if it has anything to do with the pet food recalls. You may want to change your brand of cat food. Remember not to do it suddenly or they will throw up. Just start mixing about 1/4 new food to 3/4 old food for a few days then 1/2 and 1/2 then 3/4 to 1/4 then 100% new food. I am feeding (nutro diet food) (science diet regular) and (Purina indoor formula). Yes, I use three foods, but I have 11 cats. So far none of mine are losing hair. I did have troubles with the dog though. She was eating (eukanuba small bites) and she lost all of the fur on her back legs. I have changed her to (iams) but so far the fur has not grown back.

Is she only licking the fur off her tummy area? That could indicate a behavior problem. Itchy all over could be fleas or allergies. You might want to see a vet dermatologist for more complete work up.

they may have dry skin, or are stressed and pulling their fur out.

go to a professional groomer and see about getting your cat dipped in an oatmeal bath to help moisturize their skin, or maybe go to petco or petsmart and see if they have an oatmeal dip you can buy to do yourself (i will warn you, tho, most cats DO NOT like baths...so it may be best to leave it to the professionals).

good luck =]
