Iam a Catholic also. have you not read Revelations? The Book of Life is where the names of those who will go to heaven is written.

Revelations 20: 11And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

12And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

13And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

14And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.

15And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.

Revelation 21:27
"And there shall in no wise enter into it (the New Jerusalem)
any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life."

(the Lamb's book of life is the same as "the book of life"
which is also referred to in these other texts:)
Phil. 4:3
Rev. 3:5
Rev. 13:8
Rev. 17:8
Rev. 20:12
Rev. 20:15
Rev. 22:19

The lambs book of life is in the Bible. If your name is not in the lambs book of life you go to Hell if it is you go to Heaven. Catholics generally don't read the Bible just the parts that suit their traditions and don't contradict their traditions. The reason you haven't heard about it is because the Catholic church didn't put that part of the Bible in their lectionary and they don't preach or teach on the lambs book of life.
