I just want to see how many theists still think that this is a valid argument, I'm just curious.

Atheists, from one to another please do not respond. I don't care about your alcoholism.

For those that do not know what it is:

* You live as though God exists.
o If God exists, you go to heaven: your gain is infinite.
o If God does not exist, your loss is nothing.

* You do not live as though God exists.
o If God exists, you go to hell: your loss is infinite.
o If God does not exist, you gain nothing & lose nothing.

Seriously can you people even read?

I said "Atheists, from one to another" that kind of implies that I am an atheist.

I simple wanted to see how many theists believe that it is a valid argument.

I realize that it is not.

The alcoholism is a joke about the drinking game.

Despite your request that Athiests not respond, I have to poke some holes in that argument to prove that it NEVER held.

1) It assumes that there is only one religion.

Because there are many religions, and have always been. Thus if you believe in one there is no evident proof that the one you happen to choose will be the one that is correct.

2) Your loss is nothing.

Again incorrect, depending on said religion. If one believes in a deity and the religion dictates you must give part or all of your life, in service, knowingly or unknowingly to the deity. Thus you have lost something.

Pascal probably had in mind "seek your Creator" rather than "live as though God exists" and this makes more sense. Unfortunately, Pascal died before he finished his book and what was published was rough notes and outlines.

Seeking your Creator is a reasonable thing to do but living as through God exists is pretending belief and Pascal would never have suggested that.

The thing is that most of us don't want a Creator, a God, parents or anyone else to tell us what to do. We want to be masters of our fate and the captain of our soul and God would interfere with that.

What about the "which god" argument? It doesn't make any difference because we don't want any god and the argument is just a way to get what we want.

Making an irrelevant comment insulting Atheists will only attract more of us.
I'll respond as I please.
No, Pascal's wager is an argument to believe, but not to prove anything. Thus, it holds entirely no meaning to me, for Pascal's wager is nothing more than the threat one would experience from a common thug.

don't be such a jerk... i will respond if i please....

pascals wager is bunk. an "all-knowing" god would not be fooled by someone who pretends to believe "just in case"

as i've said before... i could paint myself blue and wear a white hat, but that wouldnt make me a smurf.
