It really depends on the man. If you are a policeman, then cances are a lot of men will be uncomfortable and intimidated by this. They may look at you as non-feminine or they are afraid that you may run them to jail one day (this is if the guy is shady).
The best thing you can do when you first meet a guy is tell them you are into public service. It wouldn't be a lie, but it isn't the complete truth. When you are dating a man at first, don't talk about your work. Talk about other things, like family, interests, etc.
Another thing to do is carry yourself like a woman when out of uniform.

Most men get intimidated by anything that makes a female seem stronger then them. Do not for any reason feel that you can not tell a man what you do. Be proud of your job and doing a good job at it. If a man can not deal with what you do then its obvious he isn't the right one for you. Its just going to be harder to find a good man for you than it might if you did something else. Although it sure is going to weed out some of the jerks for ya. Good luck finding a decent man.

You don't have to lie at all, if you think they are intimidated, or some other stupid thing. Just say you do community services. and that won't be a lie, that covers a huge area of jobs. But any man that is intimidated , is not the man you are looking for. You need a strong man that has self -confidence and he won't be insecure about what you do!!Keep looking, you will find him!!

It's because you don't have to be a 'bad guy' to get in trouble. I have no record, and I don't make problems for others. But how straight-arrow do I have to be? What do I need to hide from you? Can I go camping a couple times a year and get stoned out in the woods? Lots of otherwise inoffensive people do something illegal now and then and don't want to have to worry about it. It'll narrow the field down quite a bit for you, though.

Guys have different ideas on women in the work field. You need to find someone who is very comfortable with your independance and high paying job. Someone who would applaud you for working your way up. Men that have great jobs generally want to hook up with a woman with a good-paying job so he's not taken advantage of. Raise the bar and wait for the right guy.

Ever notice that most "men" avoid confrontation, and only talk tough at home? I think a lot of them are simply afraid that it would make them the woman. Wish I'd heard about your plight before I got married! You and this other lady cop near Junction city, Ks.. YUM!

Depending on what the man tells you his job should help you decide whether or not to tell him. Some men might just be scared because you might be making more money then them.Dont worry though because when Mr.Right comes along he want really be worried about your job title. In the end your job title is an advantage because it helps you see who really likes you because if a man really likes you it wont scare or intimidate him.

The right guy will admire, respect and support your choice of profession...
If they are intimidated to me it shows they like to be the boss and controlling and worry that you will physically & mentally be stronger than them and they won't be able to be the "boss".
Be honest with them it's a good way to sort them out before you waste too much time with the wrong man.
Good luck and thank you for being out there protecting us.

You can't hide a part of your life from your partner. If you wait, they still might leave when they find out.
Any guy that is worth your time, will like you for YOU (regardless of your profession).
I dated a NY police detective. Her experiences are similar to yours. They are not comfortable with her pursuing a dominant/male profession. Also, they might be afraid of what would happen when/if you two break up. (i.e. getting even, etc)
It wasn't the case with me. We just didn't fit.
