Religion might take you to a church building but a relationship with Jesus Christ will take you to heaven. We are the church and pure religion is to serve Christ by serving others in his name and for his glory, Amen.

I believe that I can answer this question because I have done both. Religion is a general set of rules that people follow as a standard belief system regardless of what scripture says.
Following Jesus Christ begins with first accepting Him as Saviour and using the Bible as the only foundation for faith and practice.

Well for some it may be hard to distinquish the real thing and those who are practicing Christians. Practicing meaning they know the lingo, they know how mimic a relationship, they know to practice going to church, yet the heart is not changed, they may be close to accepting, but such lose out on heaven.

Only an up to date and growing relationship with Christ supplies what is needed. Only daily reading, daily prayers, daily walking by faith, daily producing the things of Christ. Daily we live, it is not a one day of the week put our time in and go home relationship it is the greatest, highest, best, holiest, lovliest, and active lifestyle that shows that we have this relationship with Christ.

blindly following religion can seriously damage a true relationship with Jesus, it is needful that each person seriously take it personal, search for the truth as for a hidden treasure, follow in Jesus example, pray , read the bible.

churches / religion should not come first in any believers life.

I first followed the KJV Bible and then sought out a church that preached the KJV Bible and that lined up with what the KJV Bible says. If a church does not line up with the Bible then you are following a religion and not Jesus. If my church stopped preaching out of the KJV Bible or started to no line up with the Bible I would stop going to that church.
