Just a while ago, my computer was freezing up, and I found myself "talking" to the computer, saying, "Oh please, please, please don't freeze up!" Obviously, I know it's not listening to me. But it's just something I do.
I was just wondering, is that sort of like a prayer? Do Atheists do that?
And for Christians....Is it wrong for me to do that? Should I direct my wishes to God instead? I mean, I know I should, but is it wrong when we "talk" to our computers and cars like that?!

I think it is Idolatry or witchcraft not sure which. A fundie will be able to tell which one is going to send you to hell though.

When my computer freezes up or the one at work does and I lose a lot of statistical information I've just worked very hard to graph out I will swear at that computer every time but in no way do I consider that a prayer.
Talking at an inanimate object isn't the same as talking to a perceived deity - after all you can see the computer is real.

I do somtimes talk to my car when it is giving me a hard time, but yes we should pray to God (in Jesus' name) instead of cursing the thing.
I'm trying to stop swearing when I am having problems with somthing(with much prayer) and I now just scream out "COME ON", and it seems to work (maybe to releave myself of some tension).
Make sure you don't give your computer too many comands at once, make sure it has finished doing what it's doing before you click on anything else.

It's very much like a prayer. Congratulations! You've discovered the human tendency to personify forces in the world around us and use interpersonal skills to try to affect them.
I wouldn't worry about it, our human brains just try to interpret the world in a certain way and as long as you recognise rationally that your computer doesn't actually hear you, there's no harm in a bit of self-expression.

No, it is not wrong. You were just talking to an inanimate object. We all do that. Also, it is not wrong to ask God for help in all your troubles, big and small. Some may say it is petty, but it is no worse than those that ask for money, or other objects. It is when you treat God like a vending machine and do not seek a personal relationship with him.

No(it is not wrong) it's a natural response to the emotion of frustration....Of course directing a petition to God,in faith would be the prefered method in yielding an answer to your request.
Wouldn't it funny if your computer answered you,though?....maybe in a real soft voice...."sorry,I will not freeze up any more"...man that would be weird and freak me out....but I think that's only common sense that it would.

I am Christian and I think its wonderful to talk to God in anyway, even if your mad about something not going the way you'd like it, its ok, God understands. But that is a good point about atheists, I look foward to hearing answers too.

I talk to everything.... computer, car, machines at work, a pencil I drop that rolls away from me... These aren't prayers, they're just thoughts that escape when we're not paying that much attention.

I can state emphatically that I never call out to unseen forces (or at inanimate machines) for help solving problems.
Everything in life is cause and effect, and solving problems is done by understanding what causes them. If my computer wigs out, I research what caused the problem, and educate myself on how to solve it. This is probably why I rarely have car or computer problems.
Now if I could only figure out the opposite sex!

As an atheist, I even have dated 2 Christians. the 1st one went truly properly. She replaced into respectful of my ideals and that i hers. Our breakup truthfully got here approximately as a distance element. She transferred faculties (approximately 7/8 hours driving) and it replaced into too plenty artwork for us to stay romantically related. We split as friends and nevertheless be in contact. the 2nd Christian I dated replaced right into a nightmare. i replaced into out with co-workers having some Friday evening beverages. I met this female on the bar and we actually get on properly (comparable musical and literary pastimes). I asked her out and on date extensive type one she asked me approximately my relationship with god. I defined that i replaced into an atheist and she or he exploded and finally stormed out. She then called me approximately another day for 2 weeks. the 1st 3 have been all approximately attempting to transform me "for the stable of my soul" and then i ended answering them. I dated human beings everywhere in the theological spectrum, Christians, Jews, atheists, or maybe a Buddhist. long tale short, faith isn't a extensive deal for me, nevertheless some human beings like to make mountains out of molehills. what's greater significant than faith is own admire and love, would desire to a relationship advance to that time.

There is nothing wrong with talking to your computer as we all do this inadvertantly. Also, don't compare yourself with an atheist. They don't believe in or love Jehovah God at all. That's about the lowest of the low, you know?
Everyone always talks to their computer at some time or another. It's just a habit that all we humans have when something is of concern to us; as long as we know our computers are not going to respond back "Hey, get off me. I need some air; I need a break from you"!
Interesting, but don't put yourself in the lowly boat with atheists. Things run much much more deeper with these ones.
