For 2 months now I have been feeding and taking care of a very cute cat that started coming up to my door, she would rub my legs and ask me for food so sweetly i couldnt resist her.I named her and she knows her name and comes when Ic all,but she isnt tamed shes a feral cat and is part of a colony of homeless cats that live in my apartment dumpster area.Recently some of the meaner and older homeless cats have discovered the food I give her and they have loud fights in front of my door.I cant afford to feed all the cats and I have allergies as well.I know i should not have started feeding the one cat in the first place. Now how do I get rid of these cats sometimes they try running in my apartment when i open the door,i dont want them to scratch or bite me,or carry any germs to me as i also have immune probs. If i stop feeding her is that cruelty?I feel so guilty but I do not know what else to do,im disabled with a back injury as well so I cant do much else????

I did the same thing. The cat I was feeding was injured though and after weeks of feeding I THOUGHT that he would let me pick him up to be treated for his broke leg. He attacked and the worst happened and he had to be tested for rabies. My jaw started locking up and I had to go to the ER to get a shot. Look up how an animal is tested for rabies if you don't already know, it was horrible and I don't want to go into details. I did the cat more harm than good. Your cat WILL survive! He will move on to find food elsewhere. Be careful trying to touch or pick it up. They can fend for themselves. I know you are a caring, loving person but it seems to be getting out of hand and you should do what is best for you. Sorry to hear of your medical problems, take care of yourself and email your first name to me and I will add you to my prayer chain. God Bless!

you sound like a kind person . Many people would not be concerned about feral cats. I have a few thoughts, If you can stand it [ that is you allergic reaction ] to the one that you like [ I also have a reaction to cat,s @ have two ] I would keep the one and find a Cat rescues / A.S.P.A. to take the rest . I have a few more ideas if you have the time, I have always had a reaction to Cat,s and I love them dearly. I have found out for myself anyways that after I have had a new / different Cat my system builds up a tolerance to the Dander , Cat fur that I am allergic too. I have to Rescues,s now one I took in 1 1/2 years ago and another one 6 months ago . Each time I had to put up with a allergic reaction for a while. I know it Will be hard to call the A.S.C.P.A. , County Animal Control for the others ,their is a chance that they Will be put down . It is far better then living Feral with sadly what people do to them . I at times have volunteered my time with various Cat rescue group,s and we have caught feral cats that are not in the best of shape sadly we would put them down. Please Spay / Neuter your cat, s and help stop the unnecessary over population of Cats. I hope this helps .

You really need to find "your" kitty a home, and the best way to do that is to let your fingers do the walking. I don't know where in the world you are. In NYC there are lots of options. But you should call some veterinarians. Often people who work in vets' offices rescue cats and care for them and adopt them out. Call around and see if you can find someone who will do that. There are also grassroots rescue groups that rescue kitties and put them up for adoption at Petco and PetSmart. These groups are always no-kill groups and would probably come and trap your kitty or pick her up. The people with whom I have experience who do this kind of work, rescue hundreds and in some cases thousands of cats. The veterinary care and food they provide at their own expense sometimes aided by donations, so they tend to be a little fanatic, which can only work to your advantage. Or you can call the Humane Society or the local SPCA.

This may sound nuts, but if you belong to a church or temple. you could ask your rabbi or minister to include your plea for help in saving this sweet little creature's life when he gives the usual community announcements. There is almost always a young person or two who loves animals or who is looking for a furry roomie. Or even if there is a local radio call- in show, you could call in.

It would be almost unthinkably cruel of you to quit feeding her now. She has come to depend on you, and you have assured her you would be there for her. She is also telling you she has love to share in return for food and a home. Hers is the tiniest of hearts, but it would be a great cruelty to break it. Please fight for her just a little longer.

The observations other responders have made that she was once domiciled is almost certainly the case. She is telling you that by befriending you. I am worried for her because there are illnesses among feral cats that cannot hurt you but can kill her, and I think it is important that you get her off the streets as soon as you can.

Good luck. I hope you find a resource and rescuer.

According to the buddhist philosophy of reincarnation, cats transfer downward within the karmic cycle due to the fact that they're instinctively merciless (ever noticeable a cat "play" with a mauled however residing mouse)? Since folks are viewed to be the maximum karmic being at the cycle, it's not most likely homeless men and women might be reincarnated cats. However, if any person (a homeless man or woman or in any other case) was once merciless and egocentric their whole existence, they will good emerge as as a cat within the subsequent lifetime. Although with that I must say I believe so much homeless men and women are honestly extra sane than every body else, they are simply worn out of handling the crap of functioning in "common" society.

Hi

A cat that is rubbing your legs sweetly is probably not a feral cat. I would hope that you would take that one in. As far as the others go, Maybe you can google and find a trap and release group in your area to help stop them from expanding.

You are what we call a complete fool. You fed this cat, and you did not expect others to come over. My advice. Complain to the apartment complex that there are stray cats around your place. Don't feed stray animals (unless it is a really cold night and you can't bear to not do it) I suggest since you are allergic you stay away from all pets. I know you love them, but you can't give them what they need.

If she was coming up to you cand being very nice she isn't a feral cat. She was at one time probably someones pet and they just dropped her off somewhere to get rid of her. Since you are allergic I would try and find someone who is willing to come and pick her up from your house and take her to a Humane Shelter. Since you say she is nice she would most likely be adopted out pretty quickly.

I had the smae problem. Have the humane society come and take the other cats, or just keep the cat that you like and keep it inside the house and feed it in there too. or yet just keep it!

I would call animal control and bring the one you are feeding inside until they get the others picked up. Otherwise, the larger cats may kill this small lovable kitty.

this might help. Fill the food bowl every night and each night move it farther from your house and closer to the dumpster. you could get a relative or a friend to help you out if it would be too far away for you to walk too.
