Do you think that the bad things happen in our lives because we have sinned and God feel we need to be punished? After all it says in the bible "Vengence will be mine sayth the Lord".

Any good parent chastens his children. But God is long suffering and merciful. In the Bible God only punished after people had repeatedly sinned for an extended amount of time. I also believe that many sins are self-punishing and all God has to do is to not protect us from the consequences of what we do. For instance, if a person lies and lies and lies until it becomes a habit what is going to happen to that person? No body is going to believe anything they say even when it is true. Or smoking, it's self punishing by the loss of your health and perhaps even the loss of your life. The Bible contains many promises and one promise it contains is that as we sow so shall we reap.

Scripture out of context. He was not talking about any vengeance on us, at all.

God does not punish, but will discipline. It does say that He disciplines those He loves. Discipline is teaching, guiding, steering (like horse-reins). It has the same root as disciple (see?) which is a student. Discipline can hurt, but it will get us to where we need to go, so long as we respond correctly.

When we go "off the path", God will do what it takes to get us back on the path. Also, when we do certain things, there are consequences. If I bounce a ball near a french door, and the glass breaks because I missed, God is not punishing me. I merely reap the rewards of carelessness. If I get myself too deep in debt because I gotta have it now, my financial shape is the consequence of my foolishness.

God is not up there with a big stick ready to swat us at any wrong doing. He is there being patient, watching us stumble and fall, ready to pick us up and teach us the right way.

I believe that the things that we do have consequences. I do not imagine God just doling out punishments, I believe that we have to accept the consequences of what we do. If a man murders his wife and gets caught, he will go to prison. If he repents of his sin, will God get him out of prison? I don't think so, he will still have to accept the consequence of his action. What if he doesn't get caught right away? It says in the bible that whatever is done in the dark will always be brought to the light. I believe this entirely, I have experienced this first hand. The things that we do, will eventually be known and we will have to accept the consequences for them.

We bring a lot of punishment on ourselves, so it is not God all the time, and it would be hard to determine if He is punishing us anyway.

If we smoke. we punish ourselves. If we consume alcohol to excess, we punish ourselves. If we have sex with whoever we can get in bed with and get STDs we punish ourselves, If we kill someone and get caught and get life in prison the law punishes us but it is our fault, If we fail to raise our children in the right way and they turn to evil as adults and get involved in
things that mess up their lives we have to watch it and we also
punish ourselves mentally and in other ways. If we eat all the wrong foods and our bodies get out of shape and we become
ill and cannot function well we punish ourselves. If we choose to ignore sin in our lives and refuse to reach out to God for the
forgiveness He promises, and die without hope we establish our own punishment.

The bad things happen for the most part because of wrong choices we make. Most of these choices can be reversed before we die if we choose to change the way we live and act. It is up to us how much punishment we want to take.

Nope. I think there are thing that happen in our lives to help us and some of them aren't nice. I do think every thing happens for a reason. I believe that this life is chance to learn, make mistakes and become better.

God will help us and guide us, but he doesn't have a big game board in heaven just waiting to see us screw up so he can mess with us.

There will be times that out of your own guilt, you will even be the one to choose what punishment you deserve.
Vengeance of God is already set and the punishment is laid out according to degree of sins one has committed. That is why He said "Vengeance is mine." He no longer have to think or feel of what punishment is to be done.

No, but I believe that whatever choices we made, if it was the wrong choice that the consequences will follow.

Anything else that happens in ones life is just life happening. We can't control the weather or bad people and influences, but we can overcome through our faith in God.

The Vengeance part is for a future time.

Yes, I think that somtimes.
I had my car stolen (with a lot of things in it), maybe because I stole cars when I was a teenager.
I know a person who stole a car to get some parts, and the next day hit a pole.

I don't think it's as much punishment as consequences. We know there are consequences for sin...and that cannot be avoided. Just like in earthly life...if you do something wrong...you pay the consequences for it.

I believe he punishes in the afterlife in the way he sees fit. He does not punish people during life. Like if you steal something, he is not going to send a meteor at your house.
