I think religion explains chaos and equips us to live with it and learn from it. If we examine the teachings of the world's great religions over time, we can see a pattern of ever-advancing levels of unity socially -- we're approaching the planetary level -- and ever-advancing, ever-deepening levels of explanation of the apparent chaos. Both are for our individual and social edification and growth.

I think that teaching evolution in schools has the potential for UNCONTROLLABLE CHAOS. When someone is taught that we came from apes and there is no real purpose in life except what you make of it, is it possible that a new generation of young people may react adversely? Think about it, if you do not teach GOD, then you are teaching that we are not held accountable for anything we do except to the civil authorities. Where is one's guilty conscience? The suppression of the guilty conscience wil be to our moral demise.

Well, sometimes it controls chaos and sometimes it creates it. It depends on which religion you're speaking of and which followers, too.
