THE FIREMANS PRAYER

When l am called to duty god,
where-ever flames may rage,
give me strength to save some life,
whatever be its age.

Help me embrace a little child,
before it is too late,
or save an older person from
the horror of that fate.

Enable me to be alert and to hear the
weakest shout,
and quickly and efficiently,
to put the fire out.

I want to fill my calling and
to give the best in me,
to guard my every neighbour and
protect his property

And if according to my fate,
l am to lose my life,
please bless with your protective hand,
my children and my wife.

ok so it aint a question, but theres 10pts up for grabs for the best comment

First off it's a good poem and I liked it. Too bad I didn't write it myself. Did a little poetry back in my day so go figure. :-D Who's the author by the way, were they listed? Was trying to find one like it a year ago when I was set up with a fireman. Let's just say that sparks didn't happen and leave it at that. :-D I've known a few firemen in my day including one who was at 9/11. Fireman or not I still respect you and the profession. I had enough of it long before 9/11 happened. I'm an Army brat so go figure. Hey save it, you never know you might just have some proby to pass it onto some day. Take care and stay safe out there. And tell your fire boys I said to do the same. :-D Chow.

God bless who ever wrote that. Thank you sharing that. Especially after the tragedy of 9-11 may we never forget those brave firefighter, policemen and hero's who go in to inferno's and look death in the eyes on a daily basics.
God bless the true hero's

All gave some, some gave all,

I've read that poem before, and I really like it. It may not be great literature, but it does a nice job of summing up how a lot of firefighters think and act.

I was a K-9 handler in search and rescue for 9 years before my knees gave out, and I have nothing but appreciation and admiration for those in emergency services. Cops and firefighters see things on a regular basis that would drive a lot of people right over the edge.

My godfather was a Chicago fireman, and his battalion was one of the ones that responded to the Our Lady of the Angels tragedy back in the late '50's. He would talk about other fires, but never that one. The deaths of all those children in the fire affected him more than he could ever explain to anyone.

God bless you, my friend.

My grandfather was FDNY deputy chief. Brave guy. Rescued lots of people from burning buildings.

He also drank, beat his kids, and psychologically tortured just about everyone in his presence.

Firemen are people, just like everyone else. Most I know (and I know dozens) have a problem with alcohol.

I give them credit for choosing a career where they risk life and limb each day, but I don't think that makes them better human beings than anyone else. They're just a lot less frightened of dying in a burning building. There are brave and cowardly people in all walks of life.

Dumbo learned he could fly without the feather. Why can't some people learn to live without superstition?

Oh, wait. These firefighters did . . .

The most important thing to remember is We have an affinity for life and we recognize how tenuous and fragile it is, and as emergency workers we have chosen a profession that allows us to actually do something (with our own hands) that really can make a difference in the future quality of life people may have after suffering a traumatic or medical emergency. We recognize that it is through the work of people that lives are literally "saved," and not as the result of wishful thinking, prayer, or adhering to some doctrine of dogmatic belief. We adhere to the position that life - this life - is what matters, and we stand against ideologies and actions that threaten that, be they through religious proselytizing, crusades, holy wars and terrorism; corporate greed; political malfeasance; or illegal "preventive wars" and wars for resources in the name of "humanitarian intervention."

I too had a good friend, a fire fighter who unfortunately passed away rather prematurely at about 40 years of age.....a pity.
But keep up the good work. May God bless you.

thank you for sharing this prayer. it is beautiful. there are prayers for different things, but this one touched me. people can be cruel because of a stereotype of firefighters drinking. i know a couple of them myself, and i have found over the years that it is the humor you have to find everyday that gets you through the hard times. you may not lose many lives in your career, but the handful that you DO changes you forever. thank you for the years of service you gave. i hope that you and your loved ones have many healthy and happy years ahead of you!!
