I am a great photographer. I take still images, learning video.I just got out of high school and I was recognized state wide for my work. I am also in the top 30 student photgraphers in the nation. Does that help? I have recently found my dream camera but it cost about half a car. How would I get a sponsor to help fund this? I mean, what is in it for them? How would I get them to sponsor me? Thanks!

It sounds to me that you are doing quite well for yourself. If I were in a position such as yourself the person I would want to get in contact with is the project manager for whatever camera your are interested in. Now typically they arent going to give you the camera outright, but may loan it out to you for a given period of time. If on the other hand you are doing exceptionally and your work is garnering a lot of public exposure you could again get in contact with the project manager and broker some kind of promotional deal i.e. promoting their cameras through your work etc...

My suggestion, even if you are one of the top 30 in the nation, go to college, and get more pieces of work under your belt. Everyone needs improvement, and this is where you will hone your skills, and find yourself.
If you want that camera, then work for it. Sell you're pieces of work, and make money. Camera companies wont give you an expensive camera outright, but they may let you ''test drive'' it, if you write them a well thought out letter. Also, find yourself a manager to get the ball rolling. They'll be able to help you along the way.

I don't know how you would get a sponsor, but there are two ways to get your hands on that equipment:
-Work for a wedding photographer. Find someone to hire you part time as a second shooter. Make an arrangement that you get to borrow the equipment when not in use. Second shooters don't get paid much, but I'm sure you could find someone to arrange this with.

-Rent. There are places to rent gear. In my area there's westphoto (westphoto.com) but you can cruise the net to find a place local to you.
Do some photo shoots, now you've got some good images to add to your collection, possibly sell.
