My husband gets frequent headaches that hurt in the back of his head, top of his neck area (even to the bottom of his ears approx) and in his teeth. He claims it feels better when he bites things, hard. We are wondering what the cause of these headaches might be. He gets different types of heaches in which he can tell what the cause is (sinus, stress, and tension) based on the area it hurts. These headaches are most common and we have no idea what is causing them. They seem to be random. He is a commercial plumber, not very active outside of work. He does smoke pot. He says it helps when he gets these headaches. We're speculating that he may need to go see the chiropractor. Just curios if anyone has experienced headaches like this, or if anyone has any idea what it may be caused by.
And please don't chastise us for smoking pot, it wont help answer the question at all and I really don't care about your opinion on this matter.
However, thank you in advance for you help and answers!

Frequent headaches are typically a sign of something medical going on. There are so many things that could be causing it (too many to list).
Bottom line is that he needs to see his doctor about it. Tell him to keep a journal about his headaches:
1. What time it started.
2. His last meal (and what he ate) before it came on.
3. Was he exhurting himself beforehand or was he relaxing.
4. What medicines he took at all prior to the headache (including did he smoke pot)
5. A scale of 1 to 10 on how bad the pain was (10 being the worst).
6. How long the headache lasted.
7. What, if anything, relieved it.
8. Was it dull, throbbing, shooting pains.
9. Did his vision impair at all during the headache. Did he vomit or become light and/or sound senstive.
10. Where was the pain.
The doctor needs that information to help aide him or her in sorting out what is going on.
Like I said, it could be a number of things. But headaches that are frequent and painful NEED to be looked at.

My first suggestion would be an adjustment at the Chiropractor.. This may very well solve the problem. I depend on mine first before other things.
My second suggestion would be a good dentist and a
thorough set of Xrays to check on whether the wisdom teeth could be causing this pressure and causing the problem.
Recently I have begun having a deep tissue massage monthly. It has made a major difference in how I feel. Just something to consider.
He probably would be wise to stop the drugs for a week or two and try to determine whether they could be any of the cause. Somes times it is process of elimination.

Sounds to me like he has a nerve pinched somewhere in his C Vertebra. This is possible without constant pain. As a matter of fact it usually seems to flair up when you are "relaxed". I absolutely do not recommend a chiropractor.
If one is necessary a doctor will honestly let you know. You can probably get some answers from a GP, but a Neurologist would be your best bet.
Saying that biting helps is what brought me to think of the pinched nerve in the neck. He may want to also apply ice/15 min.,heat 15/min. Also this is kinda hard to describe but,
try sitting very straight in a (kitchen type) chair.....back straight, hands to side, shoulders dropped. Hold head "high", you stand behind him lace your fingers and cup his chin. While he drops shoulders with hands to his side, you slowly pull straight up on his chin, pull until he stops you, then slowly bring his chin back down. Sounds crazy I know, but it works, I used to have my mother come to my work to do it sometimes, my headache would be so bad.
Anyway, if you choose to try it, hope is works for ya. Let me know.
Hope your husband gets some relief from his pain soon!!

headaches should come and go, they should not occur all the time
the worst cause is that he may have brain tumor, which compresses his brain tissues frequently, that is why it is causing him headaches
a doctor may do a CT scan or MRI to confirm.
or he may have some cluster headache or tension type headache
has anyone in his family ever had similar headaches, etc?
biting may temporarily relieve the headache, but it certainly won't cue it
smoking pot could be the reason, because those things manipulate the brain chemicals, so over a long time, his brain chemicals may not be blanaced which can cause the headache
there are many reasons, we can only guess here. he should go see a doctor

We have treated 15 - 20 yrs cases.
There is no medicine for H/A OR MIGRAINE. Not only these but for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 100% success in treating migraine &H/A confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment. I can treat it with naturopathy and YOG, but how can you manage pl see.
Avoid late sleeping if possible;spicy, sour, stale bakery foods and alcohole.
Sweet foods, sweet fruits, milk, rice and good sleep will help you.
But you try one herbal remedy- two drops of drumstick leaves' juice in opposite nostril if one side pains and both nostrils if full H/A will give you rescue. Betel leaf helps but it isvery strong.

Why would you be asking us specific personal medical questions? We are NOT medically trained and neither is the internet. if you don't trust the orthodontist you saw, then get a second opinion. Braces and other appliances are not cheap or inexpensive. At least you have dental insurance....most of us do not. We cannot know what the exact amount will be. We are not the dental office and we don't know their billing practices. You need to ask them these questions and talk to them about it.

Have him see his dentist. Sounds like he may have TMJ. Read the website below. And if you need more info just type in TMJ and more websites will pop up.
Good luck
