A philosophy is just something that a person believes to be true.

Religion involves faith and a whole system of actions and beliefs passed down through generations. Religion usually revolves around a figure or entity that is worshipped while philosophy revolves around an idea that one believes to always be true.

In short, I think the main difference is that religion is centered around a figure or entity and a philosophy is centered around an idea about how things work.

Your philosophy is what YOU think, your religion is what people tell you to think. I kid, really philosophy is something you think about and draw your own conclusions from. it is a belief generally based upon empirical evidence. Religion requires faith, a conclusion drawn by you despite a noted lack of empirical evidence.

Religion can be considered a philisophical viewpoint or belief.

But this is my favorite definition of the word philosphy:

The love of wisdom or knowledge; a study of the processes governing thought and conduct and ultimate reality
