A philosophy is just something that a person believes to be true.
Religion involves faith and a whole system of actions and beliefs passed down through generations. Religion usually revolves around a figure or entity that is worshipped while philosophy revolves around an idea that one believes to always be true.
In short, I think the main difference is that religion is centered around a figure or entity and a philosophy is centered around an idea about how things work.

Philosophy is an idea about how to live, while a Religion is a belief in a higher power. Some religions have a certain set of ways to live, and some don't.

Religion involves Gods, faith, prayer & magick, etc etc. Philosophy is creating/finding your own answers to the world. Religion is a piece of Philosophy, a chapter in a book so to speak.

Simple: A religion asks you to believe something without proof. A philosophy is evaluated on its own merits.

Your philosophy is what YOU think, your religion is what people tell you to think. I kid, really philosophy is something you think about and draw your own conclusions from. it is a belief generally based upon empirical evidence. Religion requires faith, a conclusion drawn by you despite a noted lack of empirical evidence.

Religion can be considered a philisophical viewpoint or belief.
But this is my favorite definition of the word philosphy:
The love of wisdom or knowledge; a study of the processes governing thought and conduct and ultimate reality

Religion is a philosophy. People just don't want to admit. For example people don't want science and atheism to be a religion so they CALL it a Philosophy.

they are totally unrelated. Religion is a belief in someone or something usually in a spiritual nature or meditation.
Philosophy is really the study of why. For instance a friend of mine put it this way.
Science tries to explain how things happened.
Philosophy tries to explain why
