And this is PRECISELY the reason that the New Testament account is absolute historical fact: The Roman Empire ruled with an iron fist. Any rebellion was immediately put down.
The accounts of his crucifixion and resurrection would never - would never - have been permitted; these things would never have been allowed to be recorded, if they were not so.

The problem was, this was no rebellion; and too many people were able to testify to the life and work; death and resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Roman historians Tacitus and Suetonius each record the person of Jesus ["Chrestus"] in their secular accounts.

"And came out of the graves after his resurrection, and went into the holy city, and appeared unto many."

The fact that multitudes of people saw Christ after his resurrection; saw the events surrounding it, testifies to the veracity of the account.

There were too many witnesses, alive at the time the apostles wrote their accounts, who would otherwise have laughed the apostles into ignominy.

Matthew 27: 52
The tombs also were opened, and many bodies of the saints who had fallen asleep were raised, and coming out of the tombs after his resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many.

Of course, those many didn't write about it, so the only source is the Bible. This of course is infallible, so there you have it ;-)
