I have heard that soldiers wear the boots to bed durring war time to always be ready if the enemy attacks.

It depends on the situation Carlos. Sometimes you barely get time to close your eyes and others you're in the rear and can sleep awhile and someone else can take care of the wall. Whenever the situation allows, a soldier will sleep in comfort. When it doesn't he sleeps however he can.

While we were in the bush in Vietnam, the boots never came off except once in a while to try & stop the jungle rot going on on your feet since they were constantly wet. We pretty much lived with most of our gear on till we got back off patrol to a fire base or base camp.

During the invasion (Iraq) I usually did. After I got more kinda permanent to permanent housing, I took them off when I went to bed.

you heard accurately, it is sometimes necessary to be prepared at a moments notice. however, we also tried to get time to remove the boots to prevent fungal infections, and other illness.

a helmet is not all that uncomfortable after not taking it off for an extended period.

Bed? Most don't sleep in a bed. They sleep where ever they drop... that could be a roadside ditch or under a Humvee. "Sleep" could be a couple of hours or thirty minutes. They sleep in full uniform quite often.
