Wine is not banned in Christianity, it is more of a cultural thing. In the States, alcohol was a BAD problem for over 100 years, so there was a bad stigma against it.
Many people who become Christians are at the end of their rope, and were alcoholics, which probably destroyed their life. They become a Christian, so no doubt they speak out against the evil scourge of strong drink.
In the scripture where Paul tells Timothy to drink A LITTLE wine for his stomach's sake, it was meant more for a medicinal value other than getting plastered. Timothy probably had ulcers from worrying about his church (and being fed to the lions if he was caught worshiping Jesus).
Many churches are against alcohol in general because it IS pretty much the scourge of modern day society.
How many thousands of lives would be spared every year if there was no alcohol? The few who drink 'moderately' (a glass of wine after dinner, or a beer before bed), are a drop in the bucket compared to the hundreds of thousands in America who are stone-cold drunk every Friday and Saturday night.
I personally am against it. i have seen too many people who abuse it, and it is not good for a Christian who openly drinks alcohol when another Christian used to be an alcoholic, and it could cause them to fall.
If you are a Christian, and want to have an OCCASIONAL brew-ski (which alters your brain chemistry), then go in your house and drink. don't cause someone else problems with it.

No.

There are some who go to the length that all alcohol is evil, but the scriptures don't support that.

Now, in many churches, communion is with grape juice, out of respect for people who don't drink any alcohol and for those who may be recovering alcoholics.

There is no sin spelled out for drinking, but plenty for drunkenness. God would desire that we are of sound faculty and not become (essentially) worshipers of alcoholic beverages.

I made a decision not to drink before I got saved - when I was 13, my mother died an alcoholic. I did get saved a year later and my refusal to drink was strengthened with a desire not to drink. But, I do not condemn (nor do I have the right to) anyone who has an occasional glass of wine or the old holiday champagne.

Alcoholic wine is what Jesus used. and all Trinitarian Christians used until the 19th cent. Grape juice was not invented until L Pasteur figured out how in the 19th Cent.
In the 19th cent some groups like the Methodists and many Baptist groups went to "total abstinence" of alcohol because of the epidemic of drunkenness and its accompanying moral, social and physical ills. In the US they got alcohol banned with Prohibition in the 1920s.

Alcohol, including wine, can be good or very bad. It can make you glad or very sad. It depends on where it goes and how much gets there. A little wine can be good for your stomach and make your heart glad. (1 Timothy 5:23; Psalm 104:15) Too much can make you miserable all over—and make those around you miserable too!

No. It's part of Christian History and also Catholic Mass, as well as other Christian denominations. Alcoholism and excesses with wine or any other substance is considered sinful.

YOUR ARE IN ERROR!

(1Timothy 5:23) Drink water no longer, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake, and for your frequent infirmities.

Thanks, RR
