It is easy to look at a big pile of homework and feel completely overwhelmed. I believe your mind wanders because you don't know where to start and feel like it's just so much. First, break your homework down into smaller "mini" tasks, and focus on just one mini task at a time. For example, you may have to read a chapter of a book, answer a few questions, do some math problems, etc. If it's a large amount of reading, you can even break that down by pages - or even so many paragraphs at a time. Pick the easiest thing to start with and set a timer for 15 minutes (like the timer on the microwave or something) - you will be surprised how much you can accomplish in just that 15 minutes. Tell yourself you'll allow yourself a little break or snack if you can get through that 15 minutes focusing on your work. After a short break - set it for 15 minutes again. Repeat as necessary and you'll be done in no time. And the best part is - you won't have that stress of it not being done!

The hints elbgirlpa gave are great. As well as incorporating these tips into your homework regime, you could try drinking a tea made by steeping rosemary in hot water. This really helps get that cotton wool feeling out of your brain. Just put a few sprigs of fresh rosemary (if you have it growing) or about a teaspoon of dried rosemary, in a teapot or coffee pot (can put it straight into a mug). Add boiling water and let it steep for about ten minutes. Drink a couple of cups a day, especially around the time you are trying to work.
Fish oil is also great for concentration. Take 4-6 (4-6,000mg)fishoil capsules a day to help memory and concentration.
I hope this helps and wish you all the best.

Sometimes just chewing some gum will help you focus. You might also want to study in a place where your usual distractions aren't around. For instance, if IMing people or watching TV or talking to your roommates is what distracts you, head to a coffee shop or less-eventful room. Hope that helps!

If you like to listen to music then thats ok..but try more of a jazzy type music some with little or no lyrics so you wont catch your self singing to the song, have plenty of light or try not to have the tv on when you do it either. its best not to multi task when trying to get stuff done. eat more fruits some thing with alot of vitamins to help you stay awake.
