We have fortnightly collections but as I recycle all that I can, it isnt a problem.
Perhaps those who complain dont recycle as much as they could. It can be a nuisance sometimes but its all in a good cause. I would like to know where I am going to put even more boxes though. We have a rubbish bin, food and garden waste bin, paper box and tin and plastic box, if we have any more i will have to move out to make room!

Where I lived previously our bin was chipped about 4 years ago as part of a pilot scheme.
It was suggested then, and seems to have been substantiated by recent reports, that the idea is Pay As You Throw. The more non-recycleable rubbish you throw out the more you pay.
Allegedly Council Tax bills will be reduced (I believe by about £100 a year), those who throw the least out will be better off and those that throw out the most will be worse off.
That's what we're being told but I'll only believe a cut in Council Tax when I see it.
We're on weekly collections here - once a week for recyclable and non recyclable which isn't supposed to be how it works. I thought the idea was alternate weeks.

We have fortnightly collection of papers, tins and bottles.
Weekly collection of general rubbish.
Not got a garden waste bin yet ( it has been promised)
I currently take all the garden rubbish to the tip and put it in the recycling skip.
I also make a regular trip to take the cardboard and the plastic bottles.
Not heard anything about microchipping bins though

The one thing about the recycle bin is that about 95% of house hold waste is recycleble. That means only 5% of it is actual rubbish. Most things these days, come with a recycle sign on the packet.I know for a fact, that in hampshire where i live, that we are still insinerating all our waste.
So makeing us go through the motions of putting the recycleable waste in one bin & the crap in the other is complete tosh.We don't have the fasillaties in hampshire to recycle all the waste produced. The amount of waste that england produces on a daily basis, would mean you would need a recycle plant the size of Ireland, to handle the job.
I know tha the british government has done several deals with the E.U. As well as China to handle our waste domestisc appliances & computers.

New wheelie bins have just been introduced in my area, and everything is up the shoot! We have a green bin (for garden rubbish) and a grey bin (for other rubbish, but no plastic allowed), which are collected fortnightly. If we want a food waste bin that will be collected weekly then we have to ring up and pay a fee (not sure how much!)
All the bins have been microchipped and the council are going to introduce fines for wheelie bins that are too heavy.............. The world has finally gone MAD!!!!!!

The UK is way behind other countries in terms of recycling, and I think that is mainly because the different councils are responsible for it. There should be a federal program that works with every council, to make it more comprehensive and simple to do. As for the microchips, I don't really get that either, but it sounds expensive, unnecessary and wasteful.

The only problem with alternative week collections is with the people who are too lazy to recycle.
Anything we put in our general waste goes to landfill and we are running out of landfill sites. Also, they cause a significant long term pollution problem, decomposing waste leeches toxins into the water table and give off gas. Not far from me there is a site that was used as a municipal tip during Word War 2. It's grassed over now, but can't be used for anything - even now - because of the contamination.

we have been on fortnightly collections for a while now and i must say it does seem to be ok (this is coming from someone who never used to recycle, i know tut tut!!) our blue bin (tins, plastic's, NO GLASS!) and green curbside boxes (paper and cardboard) get emptied one wk then our green rubbish bins, which i have cleaned every 4 wks, BUT, what i can't understand is we live about 5 miles from ascot area and they have there paper, plastics AND GLASS taken maybe all the councils should get together and sort this thing out, as for chipping bins!!! well no not yet but watch this space!! xxxx

Not interested in it yogini--i live in a flat, two floors up, i put my rubbish in plastic--(tesco)--bags, then when they are full--(ish)--take them down to one of three bins in a 'rubbish' area, where they are empty'd once a week on a monday, without fail, by the council. I do not 'do' recycling as such, though i alway's do my washing on 30 degree's...but NOT because of 'climate change'--recycling or anything like that, but because i get a better wash. I am nearly 50 years old, and really not interested in stuff like more rules, regulations and laws, i have seen enough of THEM to last me the rest of my life, and if i can get away with anything, then i bloody well will!! As for 'global warming'?--total tosh m'dear, it comes around every few thousand years--and there is absolutely NOTHING us humanoids can do about it...so don't listen to the scientists, they get paid better money than you and me for spouting B.S!!

we've been on fornightly collections for about a year the problem we've got is we live in a flat with a communal skip bin that gets full quickly. we all recycle but the skip gets full quickly and in the summer it stinks. they dont take glass or corricated cardboard. so we have to either a throw it the communal skip bin b take it to the local dump. i dont drive so it gets chucked in the communal bin. yet 10 miles up the road the lot gets taken. there is no set method
