Yes, I care about Global Warming and saving the planet, however I am very puzzled by the behavior of John Edwards and Al Gore.

John Edwards and Al Gore scold us for not doing enough to reduce our use of fossil fuels, however John Edwards and Al Gore routinely fly private jets that use over 1,000 times the amount of fossil fuel per mile than even the most wasteful SUV.

John Edwards and Al Gore also live in enormous 24,000 square foot mansions that use over 10 times the amount of energy per month as the average family of 4.

It makes me wonder who died and left these characters in charge of the Global Warming issue.

Well, I'm not sure if the planet needs "saving"...I'm pretty sure that it will be able to sustain life even if humans may not be a part of it. But I do care that global warming is happening. There are a lot of people in the world that don't have the luxury of having a computer and home and the time to sit around talking about things that they may or may not have control over - they may be wondering when they will eat again, or what fresh water tastes like. Those are the people that will be hit hardest by global warming. And it's hard to imagine that there may be little we can do to help.

But I've never needed the threat of global warming to be kind to this planet. I've been driving Honda Civics and/or motorcycles for almost thirty years now (I currently own a Civic Hybrid) - it's hard to imagine how anyone can settle for less than 30mpg while I'm getting 40mpg or better. I don't need to get a laundry list of the things I do - the point is that we ALL should try to actively decrease our negative impact on the environment.

I'm afraid that the global warming scare is a lot like when you find that a close family member has cancer - all of a sudden you start treating that person differently, expressing your love and appreciation for them. And if it turns out that the cancer was a false alarm, do you take back all the love you expressed? Why would you not have treated that family member in the best way possible regardless of when they were going to live or die? What is going to happen if we find out that global warming is not affected by man? Will there be a backlash of all the folks who'll say that environmentalists were Chicken Littles or were crying "wolf"? It'll make it that much more difficult to bring them around to doing what ALL of us should be doing, regardless of how long we have on this planet.

I do care now that I have kids. I also can tell there is a difference of air quality when I travel from state to state. I used to be really heavy in to recycling but since I have moved and our 'trash men' don't give us 'bins' to use anymore. I don't know why they quit doing it out here, but I am very disappointed about it. I would be glad to continue recycling if we were given the local support and the area's guidelines. I guess I am too lazy when it comes to actually taking it to the center myself (other than like I don't already pay an arm and a leg for gas as it is). I still do the other ways to conserve electricity like not using a blow-dryer at all in my house, all air and heat as well as refrigerator settings on the recommended minimums. I am not all that great at the light switch but I do use the new weird bulbs in all the rooms (all but the dang appliance's like the stove light's and the refrigerator- can't find those anywhere- or I am just blind). I try to drive at or less than 60 mph while trying to stay the legal speed limits. Buying items in bulk and going to store once week or every other week (hard to do more cause I need fresh veggies). So yes I think that I am doing a great deed to help stop global warming.

I care enough to devote the major part of my time to trying help. I am retired and realize that not everyone can do that. But, there are some things you CAN do. Ohter than, turning out a light now and then. First, we didn't get in this situation over night. It has taken a CENTURY. OIL was cheap and available and the WORLD used the cheap source of energy to industrialize. World economy NOW depends on oil. But, it isn't cheap any more and we are running out. AMERICA IMPORTS OVER 60% OF THE OIL WE USE.
BUT WE CAN CHANGE THE WHOLE THING IN ABOUT A DECADE. That's as close as we can get to instant gratification, or a three minute microwave dinner. LOL (but I'm trying)
Most people in the US are not even aware that the new "curley" light bulbs only use about 1/ fifth of the power a regular incadesant bulb uses. SO CHANGE ALL THE LIGHT BULBS. Several nations and ONE STATE, have made this a manditory law.
NEXT, get the information on Hydrogen for power. You can go just tpye in hydrogen in the search engine or go to http://www.californiahydrogenassociation.com and probably get a few thousand sites with LOTS of information. Be an ADVOCATE for the THE CHANGE. With a little transition cost, which will be a good investment, energy price will actually come down and the "exhaust" is pure water which we are now short of.
Also, SOLAR (photo-voltic) electricity is now available for competative cost and you can get it just like getiting a "direct TV" antenna, AT NO COST, (except a small deposit and the monthly bill.) to find it go to: http://www.jointhesolution.com/ltsfl
or: http://www.powur.com/ltsfl
both sites have information buttons to click and the data is GOOD. The dedicated people who have come up with this idea have a goal to CHANGE OVER TO SOLAR POWER 25% OF THE HOUSES IN THE US BY THE YEAR 2025. If we can do That and get 25% of the cars changed over to Hydrogen too, we can then look for MASSIVE change to Hydrogen and SOLAR for INDUSTRIAL POWER.
One thing for sure. WE CAN'T JUST SIT ON OUR HANDS AND WHINE. I work several hours every day sending messages like this to people. If you like the answer, feel free to copy it and send it out. If you just do three and they each to three, WELL YOU KNOW how that goes. So come on. Help yourself a little.
Just send out one a week if that is all the itme you have. Talk to your friends and get them started too. All of us drink water and the sun revolves around everyone.
If you own a home sign up for solar power. That don't cost ANYTHING, JUST A LITTLE TIME. It will take a little while to make a difference BUT, you have helped your self and the whole world too! AT THE SAME TIME. it don't get much better than that!

I am extremely conscientious about shutting off the water/lights when I am not using them, as well as recycling everything I can. Regardless of whether it will stop global warming or not, it's the smart thing to do. I hardly ever drive anywhere. Why waste money with your water and electric bills? You could save money SO EASILY just by conservation. There WILL be a water shortage in the years to come, so if nothing else, you're giving your grandchildren and beyond more water.

Like everyone always says, if EVERYBODY took these steps (which are surprisingly easy to make), we could save sooo much energy and water. It takes a communal effort. Just give it a shot and watch your bills decrease. It never hurts to try because shutting off a light takes 2 seconds.

"-things adapt all the time and if the world is changing there is not much we can do to stop it"

Yes, the world does change. However, mankind is accelerating the rate at which it changes. We have sped up the animal species extinction rate and the rate at which the earth is warming. When things change too fast, animals (including humans) aren't/will not be able to adapt as well because the earth's natural cycle was interrupted. Adaptation doesn't happen over night.

yes is important because- it is everyone around the world that is affecting the planet Earth. if many people recycle and try not to waste so much then we will have a healthier environment for ourselves. for example petroleum , the population keeps growing and the petro. does not. is small things that makes a difference that people don't see now but it affect us in the future. you are right about the world changing and coming to an end , but don't worry about these things, just now that you can do something about it. hopefully you learn some about global warming maybe that is the reason why u don't really see much importance.

I care about the planet, but in all honesty think about it; is global warming really happening? Not sure if most of the world is aware of this but I learned this back in elementary school, the world goes threw "warm times" and "colder times" irreguarldess of us using lights in our homes, burning fuel, or driving gass guzzeling trucks. Besides for that if you still belive its happening fill a cup up with water add as many ice cubes as you want, let the ice melt... what happend? the water level never changes weather the ice is melted or frozen.. hmm

OK, Stephanie: I'll assume you're a young kid who's lived a pretty comfortable life for all of your 16 or 18 years. I'll also assume that someday you might meet a man, marry, and have children. They, too will have children. And, as you grow older, you might become a great-grandmother.
And when your beautiful little great-grandchild bounces on your lap, wearing a gas mask so (s)he can breathe fresh air, (s)he's going to ask, "WHY, Grandma Stephanie? You knew that global warming was affecting the Earth, but you continued to ignore the scientists and laugh at their 'chicken little' predictions. Now there's not enough drinking water for us; now, all the landfills in which you dumped all of your trash (instead of recycling) are leaching, and the stench is poisoning our waterways and our air. You KNEW that smoke-belching factories and vehicle emissions from gas-guzzling $60,000 SUVs were poisoning the air, but you chose to do nothing about it. Now I have to live in conditions where temperatures are uncomfortable; where the polar ice caps have melted and caused major floods, horrendous hurricanes and has decimated coastal cities on both coasts of both major oceans. Now there are no more rain forests; insects, frogs, animals, plants, trees and fish that might have provided cures for some of my chronic illnesses are all extinct. Mangrove forests are all but gone, along with their rich abundance of animal and plant life. The African elephants are gone, as are tigers, lions, rare species of monkeys, valuable plants and precious other species so important to the delicate ecological balance between all men, plants and animals. WHY, Grandma Stephanie, did you refuse to REduce, REuse, and REcycle all of your newsprint; cardboard; aluminum; steel; plastics; used cooking grease; office paper; magazines; glass; tin; telephone books; and asphalt? WHY, Grandma Stephanie...? Didn't you CARE enough about your great-grandchildren...did you only care about yourself and your own comfort and convenience??"
And, Stephanie....when your darling great-grandchildren ask you these questions, HOW will you respond???? -RKO- 06/02/07

Yes, I DO care about global warming & saving the planet. Eveyone needs to take care of what they've got...including the earth. It's just common sense to recycle, reduce, reuse, compact, and conserve. If you keep taking & taking & not giving back, then there will be nothing left.

Yes, there are things we can do to change this...Well...Slow the process down. Stop littering & start recycling.Stop wasting energy. It's as simple as that. Do your part or your childeren & their children will have to deal with it. Shame on you and every other skeptic out there who doesn't believe that we, as a whole, are trashing our earth!!!
