PLEASE, before you start to rant you have to watch this short animated clip on the reality of war.

I would really like to know what someone thinks of the clip. I know we all have short attention spans, but it is part of my question.

I can see the intelligence level is pretty low in here, since no one even commented on the video that was part of the question.

I never once considered myself a "hero." But that word was sure tossed around alot when I first returned home. Then, the newness or whatever wore off, my wife left me a year later and I ended up living in a storage unit for a few years. And all of those nice shiny medals, if I put them all together with a $1.50, I might be able to get a cup of coffee somewhere. I lost a lot of friends and haven't really had a decent night's sleep since. Now, now the whole freakin world can just pucker up to my round and brown.

Your not a hero unless you save some ones life! You haven't died honorably unless you do so saving some ones life! So how many heroes do we really have out there? Lets hand out those medals like they were the golden rings on a carnival ride! At one time you had to do something truly extraordinary to receive a recommendation for the lowest of the medals! Now if your in country they give you one just for showing up! I know people from WWII that received the Bronze Star, Silver Star, and should have received the Congressional Medal of Honor with cluster but were never submitted for it! These poor souls have already been to HELL and back multiple times! Yet they have nothing from the federal government to show any appreciation what so ever. They all should be offered stainless steel coffins just like Ike received. He never served in combat one day in his life!

Well some time intelligence depends on the tools. There was no actual possibility to see the video. But I can imagine.
The answer is that soldiers are heroes that try to stay alive!
I hope that this will increase your imagination! Your eager to be sarcastic with the average IQ around here is disturbing and the lack to consider that are some other possibilities available is not encouraging either!

I'm not going to rant and no, I didn't watch your clip, because I was afraid that would make me rant--as a military wife I could never, ever think that they believe that they are "heroes." Most of them are good solid men, who love their family, the United States, and want to do their duty. In the heat of battle, sometimes things are not as cut and dried as they are back home in your living room. It's a lot harder to say what you'll do when someone has a gun pointed at you, or when children with bombs strapped on their backs come running up to you. The plot that was unraveled today goes to show that terrorists are not going to leave us alone. Our soldiers and their families need our love and support, not hate. It's tough enough to hold your family together when dad's away. Before he retired, my hubby served in Haiti, Panama, and the Middle East three times. Most of us in the US have no idea what it is like other places. Please don't judge them if you haven't walked in their shoes (ahh, boots...).

My how times have changed. Today's soldiers are called heroes. Know what I was called during the Vietnam war? Baby killer. The term hero has become a politcal tool for a certain politician.

No true soldier believes that he is a hero, he is just doing his job or what he believes anyone else in his shoes would do. Part of his job entails risking his life on a daily basis, standing in our stead in the war zone.
As far as I'm concerned, though, EVERYONE who serves, including the firefighters, police, and EMTs are heroes in my book.

I've never seen a soldier think they are heros, even when they most definitely have made the grade, as a matter of fact they seem to be the LAST ones to believe in heros. I also think the term is way overused today, especially by Civilians who have NEVER served.

Soliders do not think of themselves as heroes. They simply have a mission to complete. They want to stay alive and go home and keep their buddies alive. It is all about the mission. The ones in it for the glory, never survive long.

Having been in a war, I know why soldiers do what they do. Nobody has any thoughts of being a hero, or of getting out alive. I remember in the worst firefight, my sole concern was for my friend. I saved his life, and the next day he saved mine. That's how it is, you look out for your friends, 'cause in a battle that's all you have.

I didn't watch your video because I already know the reality of war...I don't need you to show me what you have found on the internet to be your opinion of what war really is!
Oh yeah and soldiers don't consider themselves heroes..they are just doing their jobs.
