I was standing in a large but dark almost 'cave' like room (like on Batman) and there about 5 different activities going on - i had to choose a way to die. I couldn't clearly see what was happening in the others, but I went over to a small room, all walls had persex windows except one side, and inside was a woman. I knew I was going to die, but didn't feel too anxious. She was very hurried and looked like she had been doing her job 24-7, and so, she picked a baseball bat, and told me to bend my head down. She told me she was going to break my kneck to kill me. So I bent my head down, and she swung the bat, but missed slightly because I flinched. She told me to stay still this time. Then, the last thing I felt was a great wack on the back of my kneck. My body felt "completely" numb and I slowly lay down, my eyes fixed straight forward. Last thing I heard was:
"Ok, your going..going...going.. aaaaannd your gone." Then my sight went to pitch black, and I woke up.
It really upset me :(

The woman looked like my old swimming teacher (who bullied me) but like I said, it wasn't a true match

To dream of your own death, indicates a transitional phase in your life. You are becoming more enlightened or spiritual. Alternatively, you are trying desperately to escape the demands of your daily life.

To dream that you die in your dream, symbolizes inner changes, transformation, self-discovery and positive development that is happening within you or in your life. Although such a dreams may bring about feelings of fear and anxiety, it is no cause for alarm and is often considered a positive symbol. Dreams of experiencing your own death usually means that big changes are ahead for you. You are moving on to new beginnings and leaving the past behind. These changes does not necessarily imply a negative turn of events. Metaphorically, dying can be seen as an end or a termination to your old ways and habits. So, dying does not always mean a physical death, but an ending of something.

On a negative note, to dream that you die may represent involvement in deeply painful relationships or unhealthy, destructive behaviors. You may feeling depressed or feel strangled by a situation or person in your waking life. Perhaps your mind is preoccupied with someone who is terminally ill or dying. Dreaming of your own death is generally a metaphor for the death of a certain stage or situation in your life. For example, you might have those types of dreams when you are about to change careers, or when you are getting ready to break up with someone or get a divorce. Alternately, the dreams can be a signal that there is something in your life which you need to change. Generally speaking, however, death dreams are about changes.

I have a very active dream life, with my subconscious mind communicating a lot of information to me in the medium of dreams. Accordingly, I have done research on the meanings of various symbols in dreams. I have had dreams of my own death several times in my life, and they have always been before I have experienced a big change. As an example, I had them for about a month before I graduated from high school, and I also had several just before I got married.

I know that they are scary and very upsetting. One way to deal with that is to consider your life carefully and look for something which your mind might be interpreting as a big change, or something which needs to be changed. Often, if you can simply identify the issue, the dreams will go away. They may recur if you don't deal with the issue once you have identified it. If you know that you will be experiencing a change, and it could be something as small as moving to a different house, or even switching bedrooms in the place where you live, just do an analysis of the situation, and look at all the pros and cons of the anticipated change. Usually, that's all it will take to stop the dreams from bothering you.

Sometimes when people have a lot of disturbing dreams, professionals recommend that you keep a notebook near your bed so you an write things down as soon as you wake up. That allows you to record the details while they are fresh, and it also allows you to re-read them and look for patterns. The bonus is that if you find a pattern, you may be able to then address the issue in real life which is being acted out in your dreams.

I know they are scary, but try to hang in there. If you have more of them, try to figure out what your subconscious is trying to say to you, meaning look for the change issue. Identify it, and deal with it, and the dreams may very well go away.

Be well.

Dear "Renaissance" - your online name means re-birth, as you probably knew when you chose it. Obviously that dream about being about to die has really got to you, and I must say that as a believer in Jesus, I somehow don't quite agree with those who might say your dream has nothing to do with literal death....

I don't want to sound morbid, but maybe this was a sort of reminder from God that this life is not all there is, and one day you, like all of us, will have to face going into the "great unknown". Maybe you could ask God, or any higher power you believe in, to give you more light on this subject, and I am sure He will.

At a more immediate level, my son too (aged 20 now) still has bad dreams about teachers and kids who bullied him at school, so that might be something you could need help with letting go of?

Lastly, here is an amazing website about one of those "near-death" stories, except this young New Zealand guy was REALLY dead for over 15 minutes before being revived. Like you maybe, he was just minding his own business, enjoying life, when he had this dramatic wake-up call that led to true"re-birth" -

Hi!

The only real expert on a dream is the dreamer, so please excuse if any of this is off key:

You mention bullying by a swimming instructor who the executioner in your dream looked like. A bully is someone who influences (in some cases defines) our reality. Bully's can only function if people to some degree let them, which is why these cowards pick on vulnerable people they can manipulate and intimidate.

In your dream, you "had" to chose the way to die and the bully represented your compliance with the limitation of your choices - IE: no choice to live.

Years ago when we all watched black and white TV, I dreamed in black and white. Someone mentioned dreaming in colour and once I knew this was possible, I dreamed in colour. Perhaps by telling you that it is possible for you to have some say in your own dreams, you will discover that dreams don't have to be nightmares and in life we don't have to be victims.

Go and chose, from many wonderful ways, how you will live.

My good wishes to you and your girlfriend.

Go! Live!

Reading the additional comments I would say that you have to end your fascination with this girl and this dream is telling you that it is up to you how you do it. Death in a dream signifies the end of something. It is also telling you not to worry about letting go of your love for her (from the part where you were not anxious). The bit where the job is not completed properly the first time could be your fear of not being able to but with persistance you can.

Death can mean many things in a dream, very rarely does it mean 'death'.

This dream sounds like part of the drawn out process of you and the girl that you love admitting your feelings for each other. Being 'whacked' with a strong emotion can be akin to many different things, and dying is not all that unusual.

It sounds like the realization that you do have feelings for this person have awakened all your past anxieties. In other words, admitting you are in love can make you feel terribly vulnerable. Thus, the vulnerability in your dreams is 'acted' out but in an over-the-top sorta way. It was your swim teacher who whacked you on your head because you still have some unresolved issues with them, perhaps they made you feel very vulnerable in the past, but also because it was a female. Since your love for this girl is making you feel vulnerable, a similar female in your life is called upon in your dreams in order to visualize the fear. The numbness is your inability to know what to do next, since it might seem like events are out of your control at this moment. The only good thing about dying in one's dreams is that we can wake up and have a different dream the next time.

It's ok to have issues in a relationship, especially with regards to the person's past. You have issues too that she now has to take into consideration, since that is what a relationship is about (even if it's just declaring one's affections.) Fear and insecurity are issues that relationships are meant to work through, and that is all this dream was about.

It is hard to interpret a dream online. Does that woman remind you of someone? Did you wake up comfortably? Have you had any trouble in the past or now in or around your neck? If you have thought of killing yourself ever and have been afraid of death, when was that? Under what circumstances? Is any or similar things happening now?
If you are not superstitious, Death in dream does not mean anything for future. It is only a component of discomfort and a call to wake up. Therefore something must be bothering you physically or emotionally.

Years ago I dreamt that I was driving with my family when we came across a roadblock. This was manned by several dark clothed men with shotguns. I panicked and spun the car round when one of the shotguns went off. I was hit in the back of the head and everything went black and I could feel my body slump. I woke up and I was drenched in sweat. That dream really disturbed me for a long time. Still don't know what it meant. Weird.

Someone is going to come along and change your direction in life. This doesn't neccessarily mean a new partner, but most likely a respected person, such as a mother figure, who is going to give a a kick up the bum, and bring you to your senses.
Death in a dream doesn't have anything to do with death, it's more the end of something, and a new beginning.
Hope this helps.

This is very dark. As you felt the baseball bat hit you and things went dark, it could be a past life experience that is haunting you still. I'd certainly check out past life regression to see if you were beheaded or something in a previous life.
