I don't understand why people are under the assumption that NOT wearing corrective lenses will IMPROVE their eyesight. That is a HUGE misconception.
I just answered this question from someone else:
Your eyes will continue to get worse, whether you wear the glasses/contacts or not. NOT wearing the glasses will cause you to squint, it will cause headaches, it will cause MORE eyestrain. Forcing your eyes to try to focus when they NEED help to focus, simply doesn't work. When you wear glasses your eyes adjust to seeing clearly - so when you take them off things seem blurry because your eyes actually PREFER to see clearly. Wearing corrective lenses does not make your eyes worse. Besides, what's so terrible about having to wear glasses or contacts? I can think of far less desirable things in life.
Some children who require glasses at a very early age, will often outgrow it...but will then need glasses again when as they get older. Children who have a lazy eye and if it is is caught early enough will often wear eye patches over their good eye in order to force the lazy eye to work properly. Or sometimes they will give the parents atropine drops to use which will dilate the good eye so they can't see as well out of it and the bad eye will be forced to work. There are also visual training exercises that can be done. The good eye winds up doing all the work, the bad eye gets lazy - hence the term "lazy eye". Sometimes surgery is required in order to correct it.
I mention this because a person posted an answer above me about her needing glasses as a child and then not needing them as she got older.

When you had your eyes tested, what did the optometrist tell you about your vision. Either you have reading glasses only (worn only for reading) or you have distance glasses which are intended to be worn all the time. Your vision cannot be strengthened by leaving your glasses off - you'll discover that the first time you walk into a power pole or street sign

When I first got glasses the doc told me to wear them only when I read, drive and watch tv. Of course I do those things all day. Now I cannot see with out them, I believe I made my eyes worse. However that might not be the case,LOL!

It may only make it worse if your glasses eye power fixation is to high. It can't make them better, because it does not fix the shape of your eye, the thickness of your cornea, or affect the rods and cones in your eyes directly. . Your vision may only seem worse temporarily after taking them off because you got use to wearing them and having you vision changed.

Im afraid no matter what you do your vision will continue to descend as did mine. It's absurd to think that not wearing them will strengthen you sight. When your squinting your damaging your sight.The less strain you put on your eyes the better. I reccomend wearing them all the time or switching to contacts. The least you can do is maintain good vision.

What does your eye doctor say? I wore glasses all the time
when I was growing up and it really doesn't make them
weaker to wear them all the time. I don't have to wear them
except for when I read.

Not wearing glasses makes vision worse...not the other way around. If wearing glasses bothers you, try contacts...My contacts are old so my vision has been worse than before...keep wearing your glasses...
ciao for now,
tara =D
