You read Arabic?
Because if you don't, then you haven't read the Koran, which cannot be translated.
I bet you read a really lousy "interpretation" that lied and says that Muslims have to kill everyone else.
Here's a link to a blog by someone who DOES read Arabic.
http://www.juancole.com/2006/03/peace-and-love-in-quran-list-of.html
Follow the links to read what the Koran actually says (well, OK, translated).
And stop listening to hate-filled liars; they're the dangerous ones.

This quote "quran says which is kill all infidels" has been in wide circulation from the first WTC-I attack in early 1990s.
I agree with Muslim, Roshni and a few others (above) who explained this matter fairly well.
If the American and its allies in the current war on terrorism are allowed to kill all the Jihadists, Al-Qaida in particular, you don't need to explain the rationale (fundamental reason, logical basis) of such killings in so many words to anybody who is supporting USA-UK and its allies' policies.
If from 1400 years from now if it is said that the Christians led by a few lunatics (GWB & TB) invaded a country and destroyed it on false pretext that these were 'infidels' (read anti-Americans) then how would you explain the exact situation that was prevailing back in the year 2007?
Therefore, please do not get carried away by the haters of ISLAM to eliminate Muslims when there were some Muslim lunatics (OBL & Co.) harmed USA, UK, Spain and so many other innocents in other places of the world.
By the way, do Christians, Jews and others follow doctrine of their own ‘Book’ religiously (diligently, scrupulously or conscientiously)? The answer is also similar to what you have asked and Answered adequately here.
Have a peaceful world!

Well for the literal meaning of the word it means a person who does not believe or chooses not to believe in the doctrine or religion. And to clear it up the Quran does not state anywhere to kill all infidels. If that was the case then muslims would not be able to marry jews or christians, which they are. If they were ordered to kill all infidels then how would that marriage work exactly? Also after the second crusades when the crusaders ransacked an entire city and killed every man woman and child, once the muslims defeated them they their leader instead of taking revenge ordered that the christians and jews be allowed to live in peace amoung the muslims because tolerance is a huge part of Islam.

In a way yes, but also no, the teachings of the book do not inspire violence. Extremists are the reason some Muslims are violent. The problem is not the Quran, but those that interpret and teach it to the masses. Was the bible responsible for the witch trials? The Catholics carried them out in Europe, and so did the puritans in America, but the bible teaches against such violence. The people who educated the masses were responsible for the violence that ensued.

Please, dad&son, you can't tell us you wrote all that! Give us a break!
First take a look at the word "infidel". The definition is "one without faith; one who does not believe doctrine at all". Another religious group uses this English word. In Roman Catholic Christianity, it is used to represent pagans, atheists, Muslims and Jews because these groups do not believe in the deity of Jesus. In this case, the Arabic word "kafir" is translated in English to "infidel" or "unbeliever".
As Roshni has said, those references to killing unbelievers was a specific moment in time when Muhammed and the Muslims were being persecuted by Arabian idol worshipers because of the Muslim belief in the Only One True GOD.
The Quran is referring to unbelievers, disbelievers in the Only One True GOD, that is all.

In any Religion it is utmost requirement to First accept its Doctrine by mind and heart. Rest following the doctrine is according to their ability, upon which they shall be rated to attain their status.
Similarly they have to first accept the Doctrine of Islam as explained by Quran and the Sayings of Holy Prophet, which takes them into the folds of Islam and they are called Muslims. Of course It is an oral agreement, but it is an obligation on their part to follow it as much as possible through their utmost efforts. Upon it, they shall be awarded by Allah not only in this worldly life but also in hereafter.
Now Infidels are those who does not believe in Religion of Islam and Similarly if some one does not believe in Christianity they are called as "Heathen" look in the dictionary. Similarly any other Religion shall call them Non Hindus, Non Jews etc. I myself experienced in my life in India that Hindus called me "Tulka".
Now killing the Infidels who does not believe in Islam as it is being advertised nowadays is Wrong and a False Propaganda!
How can it be? when it is stated clearly in Holy Book Quran "there is no compulsion in Religion" and it is said "Your religion is for You and My religion is for Me.
Actually it is a misinterpretation by the mischief mongers, who quote certain portions of the versus of Quran where it is written " kill the infidels wherever you find them" those mischief mongers does not produce whole of the paragraph and section to the readers, where it is related to a group of people Non Muslims known as Kuffar who violated agreements made to Muslims during the time of Holy Prophet and violating that agreement they have attacked and killed Muslims and there were wars between them..
So it was addressed in Quran to those persons, those parties in question and only at that time and that period of time and it is not at all applicable to any other people who do not believe in Islam and there is no obligation on them to do so unless they accept it on their own free will.
There is No compulsion in Religion as per Islam as explained in the Holy Book Quran Verse # 2:256 & 109:06.
I think it is clear to all my Non Muslim Brothers and Sisters.
Again you would not have minded when I used the word "Non Muslims" but it might have offended to you if I would have used the word "Infidels" as this woird has induced disliking into our minds these days.
May God the Most Benevolent and the Most Merciful bestow His Mercy on all of Us, Amen.

Not all muslims follow the full doctrine of quran..they follow it o different extend varying from person to person and according to their capability to follow it !Now Actualy we call it non-muslims mostly ...Infdiles are those who do now believe in our religion..so you see it stands different meaning depending on how you interpret it..
yes you are right you had read "kill infidels" thing in quran but are you sure you had read the full context? It is talking about Pagan Arabs who were at war with muslims that time and they were following some treaty and there it was said that if they violate that treaty and attack then you may fight with them and kill them..and i think there is nothing wrong with it..this is what we usualy do, wheever we are attacked we do respond...Now its totally wrong to believe that islam ask to kill everyone who do not believe in islam...!
9:4] If the idol worshipers sign a peace treaty with you, and do not violate it, nor band together with others against you, you shall fulfill your treaty with them until the expiration date. GOD loves the righteous
9:5] Once the Sacred Months are past, (and they refuse to make peace) you may kill the idol worshipers when you encounter them, punish them, and resist every move they make. If they repent and observe the Contact Prayers and give the obligatory charity , you shall let them go. GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful
60:8] GOD does not enjoin you from befriending those who do not fight you because of religion, and do not evict you from your homes. You may befriend them and be equitable towards them. GOD loves the equitable.
[60:9] GOD enjoins you only from befriending those who fight you because of religion, evict you from your homes, and band together with others to banish you. You shall not befriend them. Those who befriend them are the transgressors.

Most muslims do follow the Quran as it is the heart of our religion. The infidels that were spoken of in the Quran were the people of Mecca and Medina that threatened the lives of the Muslims in that era. They were idol worshippers that refused to hear Muhammad(pbuh) and forced the Muslims out of Mecca because of their beliefs. If you would like more information please read "Muhammad, A biography of the Prophet" by Karen Armstrong. She is a non-muslim and the book is unbiased. I recently read it myself as I had questions about our beloved Prophet(pbuh) and what it was like when he was alive. I found it very enlightening and well written.

the verse was revealed to the Prophet Muhammad in the middle of a battle. If American soldiers were given the order to kill Germans in WW2, does that means that all Americans want to kill Germans now?
