Congrats on loving your kitten.
Always remember she is just a little kitten and she is exploring. A cat's world is more vertical than ours. That is, they like to jump up and climb.
When I had my own little kitty I did not want her to jump on the table. So I got scotch tape and made lots of rings so the sticky side faced outward. I put these rings all over the table at night before I went to bed, nighttime being the most active time for a kitty.
She HATED the sensation of the stickiness on her paws, and after a week or two, she didn't jump on the table anymore.
Make sure she has toys. A catnip mouse, spongey balls, and little whiffle golf balls make good toys. So is a small ball of yarn... it's ok, let her play! You can reroll the yarn up in under a minute.
If there are prized possessions you don't want broken, time to redecorate and put them away until she's older and doesn't care.

I've heared of a squirt bottle/water gun (can ad a little vinegar so that if the wet doesn't bother them the smell does) or a can, like a pop can, with a couple pennies in it to shake at them and frighten them away from something they're doing wrong.

Not sure exactly what the little guy is doing but the easiest thing to do is to just make whatever they are doing not possable. Like when I had a cat that was scratching a particular corner of the carpet, I put a box there and the behaviour stopped because he couldn't do it anymore.

Fill a coke can with about 10 pennies or dimes (I don't remember which size fits through the opening)....When they get where you don't want, go near them and rattle the can and say bad kitty, get down.

Or you can use a spray bottle on a mist setting...A spray or two should do the trick....And there's no need to yell or go on and on...a simple no kitty get down works.

I also taught my cat to "sit" on command. This was helpful if I saw my cat was going to get into trouble and I wanted to stop the behavior before it went that far.

I've also done the spray bottle thing or the can thing AND a time out in a kennel. BUT, if I did both, I usually ended up chasing down the cat. 1-2 minutes time out usually did the trick. Then, when you want the cat out of time out, release it in a different area besides where it got in trouble.

ALSO...If you take your pet to a vet and you take it in a kennel, you will need to make sure that something about the kennel you do time out in is different....Maybe when the cat goes to the vet, you have a blanket...Take the blanket out when you do a time-out. You don't want to traumatize kitty thinking that because it was bad it is going to the vet. It wouldn't like the vet very much in that case.

Firstly - NEVER punish a cat! It will destroy your relationship with her.

To dissuade her from jumping on things you don't want her to, pick her up from it and put her firmly back down on the floor, saying 'no'. Don't shout at her, and above all don't smack her. It will take some patience, but it would help if there was nothing attractive on the things you don't want her to go on. You can try putting deterrents there, especially citrus smells (orange for example) and cats usually hate alumimium foil, so try that too.

Try distracting her with plenty of toys as well, and if she likes climbing up on things consider getting her a cat tree - safe, fun, and more attractive than your furniture! You can make it more attractive by rubbing catnip on it, or using 'Feliway' spray on it.

To stop her scratching things you don't want her to scratch, she MUST have a scratching post. Cats need to scratch, it's part of their natural behaviour for many, many reasons. When she scratches where you don't want her to, calmly pick her up, and put her by the scratch post, and gently put her paws on it. Then show her exactly how to do it with YOUR hands. It might take a few goes til she gets the idea. And WHATEVER you do, DO NOT EVER get her declawed. It is barbaric, painful for the cat (often for life) and causes all sorts of behavioural problems.

At the end of the day, if you are going to keep a cat, you must expect some damage, especially when they are little. With kindness and encouraging the behaviour you want, though, most cats learn.

The first thing I`m going to say is cats are not like dogs. They do not have pack leaders and therefore they will not do squat to please you. Locking the cat in a kennel teaches it nothing except that when she tries to do stuff you dont like, it gets locked in a box. That would be an acceptable way to discipline a dog, but cats dont think the same way dogs do.

I agree with the waterbottle thing. Except dont squirt the cat in the face! I`m sure all of you have been shot in the face with a hose or a watergun and it hurts really bad if it gets your eye.

I also agree with flicking or touching the cats tail.

Strongly agree with Iyamei V - all of that works so well.

Would like to add that you can't punish a cat for something you didn't see it do. It's not just if they're alone in a room...if you don't catch them in the act and discipline them immediately, they won't understand what the problem is and could become afraid of you (and keep doing whatever it is you don't like).

Other thing, be CONSISTENT. For example, don't let them on the couch sometimes and them punish them for jumping on the couch at other times. If you don't want them on the couch they can NEVER be allowed on the couch. They can't understand the logic behind exceptions.

First off, you have to be strict with yourself and don't change the rules. Either they can do the thing or they can't do the thing. Not one time they can't do the thing and the next time they can do the thing because they look cute doing it. Once you have set the rules and you see them do something that you don't want them to do you have to immediately show them what it was and give them a little smack (not hard, just enough to get their attention) and point your finger and tell them NO. Each time they do the bad thing you have to do the same thing. I found that after three or four times of doing the bad thing and I went to show then what they did they already knew they did the bad thing because they hung their head when they saw me coming and was ready to smack them and tell them NO. After the third or fourth time I did not smack them anymore and just told them NO. After about five or six times of the bad thing they didn't do it anymore. We got the cats when they were about six weeks old and taught them right away and have not had any problems since. All of our friends and family can't believe how well behaved they are. They know to lay down when we brush them and even the vet can't believe how well they handle the office visits. We treat our cats as well as we would our children but you have to show them who is boss. Good luck!

I normally get the wooden spoon out and give her a good hard wack on the head.... totally kidding lol. Ive had my kitten for a year and i found i used to have a big problem with her scratching at everything and clawing into things. I know this is going to sound really silly but animals dont like their tales being touched so i lightly touches or fliched her tail and it kind of shocked her and made her stop so that she could focus with what was going on with her tail. Hope it works.

The best way to discipline a cat is to get a squirt bottle, one that will spray not stream. Buy more than one, you'll need one in each room. Make sure they are clean bottles; you don't want to use one that has had any chemicals or anything like that in it. Fill them with cold water about 1/2 - 3/4 full. Whenever your cat is doing something you don't want them to do, you get the bottle and squirt them with it. To let them know you are serious you should squirt them in the face. Cats hate water except when they drink it. They really don't like to be sprayed with it and especially not in their face.

I have 3 easy solotions for your problem,

1: Squirt bottle, just one squirt on her fur, and say 'no, bad cat' is a firm but loving way.

2: tap her on the nose with two fingers and say 'no, bad cat'

3: Say 'no, bad cat' to her when she does something bad and praise her when she does something you like.

Some advice,
Don't lock her in a room by herself, because by the time you get her in the room she'll have forgotten what she's done. Never strike a cat, that will make her afraid of you.
