and he liked you?

On my mission I lived in an apartment with four missionaries. There was one missionary who I always thought was gay, but it didn't really concern me (he wasn't my companion). This missionary didn't hit on other missionaries and was pretty cool - we all hung out on numerous occassions. To be a missionary you just have to follow the rules, so if you're gay or not doesn't necessarily matter (which is the same way for just being a member of the Mormon faith - if you're gay you are still accepted, as long as you are living according to the commandments and teachings of the faith). As I did, I would expect the non-gay missionary to respect his companion and if he was hit on to be honest and let him know you are straight, not interested, and that you expect him to focus on the reason he is there, to teach people of Jesus Christ.

The elder I mentioned did "come out" after his mission...and I still respect him as he was an awesom missionary and a good person.

Well, here's the thing.

1) There shouldn't be any Mormon Missionaries answering questions on this site. Its against the rule

2) You are supposing that the companion has come out of the closet. If the missionary knows, the missionary president probably does too.

3) If he likes you, that doesn't mean that the "gay missionary" has done anything. Just that he likes the other companion.

4) If he hasn't done anything, why should the straight companion do anything?

5) If the "gay" companion is following mission rules, then there shouldn't be a problem.

I've read several blogs from Mormons who went on missions and had a same-sex attraction, which is a term we prefer to "gay."

Generally speaking, a person with a same sex attraction who serves a mission should keep it to himself or herself. There is no problem in this case. However, if a companion revealed to you that he had a sexual attraction to you it would be best to let the Mission President know. The Mission President would know what to do.

Although I did chuckle when I read this, the thought did cross my mind before. I am preparing to serve and I've thought "What if I suspect my companion is a homosexual?" Well I've thought about it, and I've come to the conclusion to let it be. It's not my problem or concern, UNLESS he makes it a uncomfortable enviornment for me. If he were to touch me in any inappropriate way, make comments, or "Accidentaly" walk in/touch in any way, then I would report to the mission president. If you suspect he's gay, don't go throwing out accusations. If however you are put into a situation where he is breaking the rules or making it uncomfortable, you should report it. Normally if your are gay, you don't go on a mission. That's just my opinion.

I am female, but if I had a missionary companion who was a lesbian, and she came on to me, I would report her ASAP. Same as if a heterosexual-type elder-type missionary came on to me, a female.

This was the cause of much controversy, anxiety and anger among the homosexual lobby, when Boyd K. Packer, acting president of the Twelve Apostles, gave a talk to young men about sexual mores and chastity. He was relating a story of just such an occurance, of an elder who's companion made a pass at him. He was so upset, he hit his companion, and Elder Packer said he probably would have done the same, or something along those lines. The homosexual lobby took this to mean that Elder Packer, and by inference, the LDS church, was advocating violence against all gays. When nothing could be further from the truth.

Hey, what kind of question is this?
I don't know what they would do but hmm..... before leaving on a mission they know the church rules and all the rules they have to follow during mission so they know what they can and can't do. They are very respectful to the rules that they have to follow.

Ah, and before missions they have interviews with presidency of their ward and stakes and I don't think that someone would lie in one of this interviews because the mission is something serious. I don't have anything against gays but you're mixing things and if something like what you just asked happens it would not be right.

None of them are likely to answer, seeing as they shouldn't be online. Hypothetically, however, I would probably request a new companion to make life easier for him.

We would encourage them to go talk with their mission president. Depending on what the mission president says they will be allowed to continue their mission or they might be sent home.

Tell the Mission President. That could get him sent home!
