The US has over 300 million people. A large portion of this is christian. Generally a large portion of THOSE are anti-abortion.
"2000 and 2001, about 127,000 children were adopted annually in the United States"
In 2003, 120,000 children were WAITING to be adopted

120,000 children... do you realize how easily they could be brought into christian families in the US?
So what's the hold-up? Seriously? Will the anti-abortionists put their money where their mouth is?

If xians claim that these babies will not be unwanted, where is the proof?

I love this! You point out an example of Christians' hypocrisy, and they can't weasel their way out of it, so they go on the attack. Classic!

First, allow me to preface that Im pro-choice, and in my opinion, late-term abortions should be illegal with the exception of serious medical consequences, but Im aware of the tedious process adopting a child can be. I have a friend that adopted two Ukraine children and it took a year. Not to mention the expenses. The agencies don't pay your way for sure! On the abortion side, to ask a woman to carry an "unwanted" child for nine months and then give it up, is a lot to ask in some opinions. There needs to be a tremendous amount of support for the mother and financial benefits as well, if society is going to, at any time, demand that she carry full-term, and then go through the adoption process. After all, she's solely responsible for this baby that she's going to hand over to someone else in the end, and when that baby emerges healthy, its all her doing. I think adoptees forget that. They're so consumed with the baby, that the mothers efforts and perserverance are lost. This is a huge factor in the decision to carry an unwanted baby or not.

I cannot imagine being in the position to have to make a choice like that, but I would understand and respect either decision.

I don't know that these are necessarily correlated. I do think more people should adopt...I never understand why people spend $50k trying to "have their own" child when so many children are in need.

As others have said, most couples want to adopt a baby, preferably white and perfectly healthy. Children over age 5, children of color, children with health or developmental issues have a much more difficult time of it.

Another problem is the difficulty in meeting the standards set by social service agencies. If you have your own children you don't have to meet any financial, intellectual, psychological standards. Potential adoptive families are often put through very rigorous investigations AND their can be significant expense involved.

You can blame that on this...

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Adoptions agency's and all the lawyers, charge so much money to adopt a needy child that is is basically a luxury for the rich and famous, not the average family. I would personally love to take in orphan child, but I cannot afford the expense.

If it wasn't so expensive a good many of those children would get adopted. That money just makes lawyers, and baby brokers rich, while orphaned, unwanted babies grow up in group homes as time just keeps going by, until they are tossed out in the street when they become of age.

Then you have the screwed up laws that give the birth mother a chance to get their child back years later after your baby begins to call you mom and dad. A good many people do not want to risk getting their heart broken like that.

The solution is not adoption, but abstaining from having sex which is what the problem is. Out of marriage sex ending up in an unwanted pregnancy. If you aren't irresponsible, and you don't have out of marriage sex, you won't be producing unwanted babies. Fornication goes against the Word of God.

1 Corinthians 7:2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

It takes alot of time with the adoption process in the U.S. And it is not a easy process...And there the adoption fees to consider....most people only want "babies"...and then what about all the others....I have a family member that went through this for two years...all they wanted was a CHILD...not a baby, or was any sex implide...Nothing...All kind of references were given, many many papers had to be filled out...they passed everything...they finally went to China, and within 3 months they had adopted two beautiful Girls...The American Adoption Service needs to get with it, all those children are still waiting.

I don't think people understand the way it works. Look, when a baby is set up for adoption, a GOOD adoption agency finds a good family for the child almost right after they're born.

Most of the children who wind up in foster care are NOT there because their parents set them up for adoption rather than deciding to have an abortion. They are there because of neglect, abuse, parents in jail, parents killed and didn't leave someone their children, et cetera.

Besides, how many people do you know that can afford to pay upwards of $20,000 out of pocket to adopt?

I would LOVE to adopt a child, if I had the money for it. However, I'll be happy with running a foster home whenever we're going to be staying in one place for awhile.

And yes, I am against abortion except in extreme cases.

So your point is that these 120,000 children would be better off dead? I'll bet those 120,000 people would disagree with you.

Why don't more people adopt?

Well...for starters the adoption process and criteria in this country is tough.

Plus many of us already have children and are raising our own babies.

An unwanted child is a sad case...no question about it. But a dead child is even sadder. A child that never got a chance to live, to be free and to pursue happiness...our inalienable rights. That is an abomination.

Children raised in orphanages or foster care often turn out to be fine adults and members of society. No, it's not the ideal situation, but again...death is final for these babies and offers no options or alternatives.

You cannot know what an unwanted child could grow up to do...maybe they'll be parents themselves and raise their children, maybet they'll contribute something signifcant to society.

Here is a list of famous people adopted or raised in foster care/orphanages. http://famous.adoption.com/famous/a-z-index.html

With your thinking, all of these people would have been better off aborted because they were unwanted.

The government, State and Federal, make it so difficult to adopt an American child, that many turn to other countries to adopt! I and my fellow Christians are *not* "anti-abortionists", any more than the pro-abortionists are *really* "pro-choice"! We are pro-life, and many of us have, indeed, adopted babies. Others of us, and some non-Christians, too, support our local "Crisis Pregnancy Organization", Pregnancy Decision Health Center", "Pregnancy Counseling Center", etc., with money, fund-raisers, prayer, and service! So, we *do* "put our money where our mouths are"!

BTW: The time for choice is *before* conception!

How in the hell can anyone adopt these poor Little Aborted Fetus's when the Mothers choose to kill them first ?? What do you think most people can read minds ?? When a Mother becomes pregnant with a Little Soul and at an early stage of growth, choose to do away with it. Most women don't even consider to carry this Fetus for the entire nine months time. You can't be that much lacking in wisdom to see what is happening here. You are just another Propaganda attacker against the Anti-Abortionists. Many Christians would adopt these poor Little Un-wanted Souls, but they are murdered at an early time. Good Grief, get with reality.

Do you have any idea how expensive and how long the wait is to adopt in the USA? That is why many couples adopt from Russia and Korea, etc. The laws about adoption need to be looked at so more children can be placed in homes faster.

The real problem though is why so many people in such a great nation don't have a clue how to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

God Bless.

I would have liked to adopt years ago but they used to make it very difficult for you. You practically had to be a perfect person to adopt (no past drug or alcohol use, no previous divorce). I don't know how things are now. I don't have the energy or money to do it anymore. It's very sad. I think the system is set up deliberately to prevent adoptions. Maybe the social workers like it this way - job security you know.
