I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer...I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn't have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is web design a good career path to choose?

Web design and development is a good field right now. Most corporate jobs would go to people with four year degrees with a web design certification, but if you're good enough, you might be able to start your own business and find clients without a degree. Most clients would expect you to do both the design and the development, and provide or arrange for the hosting - they'll expect one-stop shopping for their site.

Good luck.

Depends. I think it's a good direction if you want to be self-employed.

I did it backwards - started the website, first . Decided to contract out the design. As far as the code, (html, rss, etc.), I went with Site Build It and let them handle it.

It's exciting when you know the graphics and the html. Just don't get into a large student loan debt. Worse than credit cards.
