I want to also point out that Jesus made no distinction between himself and God and expected no less from anyone else. The great confuser is the illusion of seperation. It is the perspective of seperation that allows the injustices of objectifacation, responsible for all ill that man subjects fellow man to. The tree of knowledge of good and evil represents judgment, the very judgment that God cannot pass on himself and thus seperates what is intrinsically one and complete into peices in compitition. Adam and Eve are at this very moment halucinating Gods judgment, when in reality it is their own judgment that projected on to the God which they are but instead see as seperate and external.

Good question! Jesus never asked anyone to give up their individuality or deny their human needs. These all became part and parcel to the christian scene much later on. Much has been added to what Jesus taught which never was to try and be like Him. The Spirit of truth was sent to heal us from uncertainty and confusion. Be smart, let The Holy Spirit show you the way.

This is a good thought provoking question. Let's take the word imitate out of your main question and substitute the words "follow his example". When we follow Jesus example and live our lives as he lived his it will become a habit of Godly living and we are closer to God. You have to remember that the Bible was written by humans and it recounts the human experience. I have never had God or Jesus appear before me but I have had intuition that my thoughts or actions were right or wrong and a feeling of well being during spiritual reflection. That works for me. I hope this helps you.

The biblical Jesus said some interesting and wise things -- and we need to use our rational judgment to distinguish the good from the bad.

But the church made him into some kind of "god".

And spoilt what good there was here.

Wow! You actually have outsmarted yourself. Jesus asks us to follow His example and knew we would fall short (ie... "all will sin and fall short of the glory of God". His purpose was to demonstrate a moral life walking with the Father, and to die on the cross to save a sinful populous from death. Sorry I didn't drop enough nickel words like you did, I don't care how impressed people are with my intellect, obviously that is something very important to you. However, wants your question is read... it's easy to see how shallow it reallly is. Nice try.

So man condemned himself by himself and fell into deceitful state of existence by seeing himself as a separate entity apart from God and totally independent from God's will. Adam's thoughts reflected a mind refusing to accept unity and oneness with God when in reality he could not possibly be apart of God, but the whole situation was just a lie that came from Satan himself which Adam believed resulting in the loss of his oneness with God, when in reality he was hallucinating. Henceforth, Adam also lost the glory and the splendor of existence which he received from God because separation from God is impossible; it would defy the very principals of God's Law and order. Adam truly never lost that unity with God; it was only a lie that he believed; so in accordance to his faith, the Earth and the environments reshaped itself to suit that lie that Adam believed and accordingly all things adjusted themselves and was changed to become coherent with Adams new faith and mentality.

So God had to incarnate as a man to reverse that spell that fell unto Adam to awaken him from that delusion he was trapped into, and thus to redeem him as a whole and a glorious entity united with the love of God and enjoying eternity with Him! Is that what you are trying to tell us? If it is then let us all shout Halleluiah! Let us begin then to live the life of Christ and so that we may become His younger brother as said by our brother Paul in Romans 8: For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.
May the name of our Lord and Savior be blessed and glorified for ever and ever. Amen!
