I lived in NYc all my life, I ran into most celebs in the street around central park west/lincoln center area/the village- thats where most of them lived. Good chance you will run into someone.
I walked past and ran into on the street:
steve tyler of aerosmith- saw him on west 4th street
joe perry of aerosmith- saw him in borders books in time warner building
eric bogosian- actor- saw him in barnes and noble west 4th street
axl rose- guns n roses- saw him around lincoln center
howard stern- saw him having coffe in barnes and noble- lincoln center
drew barrymoore- saw her walking on east 8th street
prince- saw him in the village
lisa presley- saw her around union square
criss angel- saw him walking on 34th street
sean connery- saw him walking around times square
Madonnas ex boyfriend carlos and her daughter-- saw them walking around lincoln center
Tina Louise- saw her around murray hill
Harvey keitel- saw him having coffe in soho
Joan osbourne- she was having dinner nest to me in union square

If you walk around the right neighborhood, Soho, Tribeca, upper East Side, you might spot a celebrity. Many eat at the top Manhattan restaurants, so you would have to be lucky to see one. As far who, all major Hollywood and TV stars living on both coast, LA and NYC. It's all apart of the Hollywood status image to have an apartment in NYC. And also plenty of well kown musicians live in Manhattan. You name any well known star there is a 75% chance that star has a place in Manhattan or stays once and a while in Manhattan. If you want to see stars, or hope to see one, contact the NYC Bureau of TV, Film, and Theater, they might suggest tours.

Go to Central Park, might see some there. I dont know if he lives there, but I saw Al Gore in Central Park and Tom Brokaw too,they were walking together.
I hear celebs like Soho.

you will see a lot of celebrities if you keep your eyes open. don't walk up to them and ask for an autograph though. the beauty of living here is that they can lead a semi normal life like everyone else.
i see kate winslet, maggie gyllenhaal, julia roberts and chris noth all the time. a lot of celebs live here. the list goes on forever.

Also the boutiques on the upper east side for shopping. I have seen plenty of celebrities and famous people on madison avenue. Just don't talk to them or bother them, its really tacky and gauche. Of course summer is sort of the off season since everyone goes on holiday.

i used to work in a restaurant down in tribeca and i would see alot of celebrities walking or coming in to the restaurant to eat. but you would act cool when u say them because like my mom always said they are people just like you they are just in tv!!!
