There seems a lot of pharasees here and self righteousness. Speak the truth in love we are told to do in the scriptures, we are not to provoc? Why do people do it, especially Christians?

On here I've noticed it's the other way around.

I am a Christian and I don't provoke unbelievers, what would be the point? I think that a Christian's approach should be love, not arrogance.

Catholicism got here first. The phrase 'Catholic' manner 'common', 'adding all Christians or all of Western Church'. Catholics have been the primary Christians. Roman Catholic Church (in Vatican) is the primary respectable Christian Church. Catholicism got here from Judaism and via AD 394 Christianity grew to be the respectable faith of the Roman empire. It is after the Reformation throughout the sixteen th century that Roman Catholicism break up and had two different branches - Protestantism and Orthodoxy . Roman Catholicism, Protestanism and Orthodoxy are the 3 important branches or denominations of Christianity. These 3 important branches and a few 'Other' Christians are in combination referred to as Christianity. So if you're a Catholic that implies you're a Christian. When you introduce your self it's extra handy for others to appreciate and extra cozy for you while you say ' I am a Christian' or 'I am a Christian - Catholic' than 'I am a Catholic'.

One thing you should keep in mind is that many, who call themselves christians, are not christians at all. And many do not spend time in the scriptures. If they would read Phillipians 2:14-16 they would understand that we are not to provoke unbelievers, but show the love of Christ in our lives. Titus 3:9 says we should avoid foolish questions. many unbelievers who have purposed in their heart not to believe in God are under the influence of the evil one. and the evil one will use them to tear down the children of God. especially those that are new in their faith. The Bible says that they then become "unproffitable servants" As Christians we should live our life in a way that shows the love of Christ. We stand up for our faith by not being swayed by the world. On R&S we should answer legitimate questions with the truth from God's word, not our own opinion. as the saying goes, "Let God's Word be true and every man a liar". I find that to be the answer to many arguments.

I don't think most of the ones who sound combative are actually trying to be like that, they genuinely want to learn. The problem is that they have heard nothing besides arguments about how atheists are evil, and how they know nothing about the Bible or Christianity, and they are responsible for the Holocaust, and they willfully ignore the signs that the universe was designed. They come here and parrot these arguments, often innocently, in an attempt to hear an atheist's response. Because their questions have been asked a thousand times before, often by people who have strong feelings about the evil nature of atheists, these people who genuinely want to learn, are attacked needlessly. Christians, people of other religions, and atheists, must all strive to learn to be more patient with people whose beliefs differ from our own.

Humans have a natural propensity to cherish their opinions & dislike the opinions/conclusions of others. Differing opinions often lead to personal attacks & one finds that even the field of Science sinks to that level. I have seen attacks by atheists on the theists & Vice Versa.
Chuckle, if you want to undergo personal humiliation, publish a scientific paper that opposes the view of some internationally known figure in the field. Seldom will one get a simple rebuttal or acceptance of the conclusions reached in the paper. Too many times they will question your intelligence & parentage.
Thus, since religion is a closely held personal belief with very few supporting scientific facts, it becomes a personal thing very quickly.

I think some of them really can't imagine how a non-Christian could respond, and they really want to know what non-Christians have to say about it. Others probably just are combative. I think it doesn't do much good, and if anything, does harm.

They are forgetting that "we war not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual powers....." You must allow the Spirit to bridle the tounge. As James says "He who controls the tounge, controls his whole body."
