I have a younger brother who just turned 16 and now wants to experiment with weed. I'm 19 and have never smoked weed since I have never felt the need to and have felt that the negatives outweighted the positives. I was also turned off from drugs thanks to my middle school anti-drug classes that I feel that my younger brother did not have much of at his middle school. Almost all of my friends have or still smoke weed and a lot of them don't think it's that big of a deal. Is it OK for me to let my brother smoke weed just to see what the "high" is? Is he old enough to make a decision like this by himself? I am torn between being a good big brother and letting my younger brother make decisions on his own. Also, another reason I haven't tried opening the door to drugs is because both of my grandfathers were alcohol addicts and my parents have also told me to never do drugs or alcohol because I might have this "addict" gene.

of course you shouldn't!!! if you know it's so bad, then you need to be the older sibling and keep him away from that crap.

it ruined my brother's life, he doesn't have a job and all he does is sit around and smoke weed all day.
and you know what, he started at age 16 and couldn't stop.

be the smart one, keep him away from it

Your younger brother isn't your child, but as an older sibling, you do have a responsiblity to be a role model to him and be there for him when he needs you. You need to be the voice of maturity. It doesn't matter how old he is. If your family member is addicted to drugs or alcohol or wants to experiment, age shouldn't be a reason not to step in and tell them you are concerned. Yes, he can make the choice by himself, but it does not mean that you should just sit back and allow it to happen. He is your little brother and you should be doing everything in your power to keep him healthy and on a positive path in life. Don't just sit back and let this happen. You are his family and you should care enough to step in and make your opinion known.

NO talk to your brother and get him to understand this that you have come to understand about your family's addiction take it from an ex addict you start with weed and end up in much worse things of course "it's never going to happen to me" you always tell yourself and it always does 11 years of doing drugs, lost my kids and families trust , now I have been clean for almost 3 years and got my kids back and my families trust and I seriously think that if I would have had someone tall me about drugs in my teen years I would have probably had never tried them, so please show your brother you care don't let him come and tell you latter on that you could have told him not to try it but you didn't...

If you really want to be a good brother, watch over him day and night and don't let him touch drugs. What would happen if he becomes an addict and he began to steal or do real bad things for drugs or maybe even die of an overdose, you would feel so guilty for letting him, right?

don't try to be his parent you have no rights and don't try to be little him because he wants to try, only give him your advise on the out comes of the drugs. He might have to experience it on his own just be there to caught him..My big sister(God rest her soul) never jumped on me because of weed or cigarettes, she just knew that It was not for me and that I was just trying to fit into the crowd. You can only be who you are and your brother knows believe me he knows how much you care, if he smokes weed or do drugs don't speak too him no matter what until he realizes why you are not speaking too him. He will realize that your love has shown,

If your brother has the "addict" gene, one or two times smoking marijuana could turn on a faucet of desire for that high that he will never be able to turn off, and will have to struggle with for the rest of his life. I think it's good to let him make decisions for himself, but at the very least, he needs to know this information before he tries alcohol or any drug.

I've linked you to a good article on this topic below, and put a few other links under "Sources."

Good luck.

Oh boy, you should not asking this question, of course prevent your brother for letting experience drugs. If he'll not obey you, your parents are the answer to your question. Don't ever hesitate to relay your problem to your parents. They are the first one to confide your problem and I'm assuring you, you'll gain a peace of mind.

def. not a good idea
you need to protect him and explain why drugs will only harm him. he doesn't need to get hooked on a habit like that ever - much less at his age.
he may not want to listen to adults who tell him not to do drugs, so please influence him in a positive way. letting him make a decision on his own that you know will harm him is not being a good older brother.

what are you thinking? no you should not allow your 16 year old brother to smoke weed. all you can do is give your version on not to smoke weed. regardless of your say so or not, teens this day and age are going to do it regardless, all we can do is educate our children and pray, hope for the best outcome of any situation.

You're supposed to be your younger brother's role model. What kind of example would you be setting at letting him smoke weed?
