she says: US police officers can go to iraq and become military police w/o having gone through military bootcamp....also they can be military police in Iraq and come home and become street police officers.

I say: even if they are police at home they have to have gone through boot camp prior to becoming a military police, just like every other soldier. they cannot be US street police officers and just head to iraq and become military police. they need more training.

which of us is right? there's $20 on this, lol.

Anyone entering the military has to go thru basic training, and MOS (Military Occupational specialty)training.
If a civilian cop wante to become a Military police, he would have to under basic and Military police training.
Now, in Military Police training, since he is a civilian cop, he might have it a lot easier, and with his background he might even be used as an instructor , but he still must attend that training.
Tell mom to cough up $ 20.00.

You are right! US military Boot camp and AIT must be completed before a civilian police officer is assigned to the US Army as a US Army Military Police Officer regardless of civilian training and the same goes in reverse whereas a Military Police Officer still must complete a State Sponsored Police academy before being certified as a Local County or State Sworn Police Officer, ( I know, dumb huh?) however, a civilian sworn and certified police officer can work as a DOD contract Police officer in Iraq and many do, usually at more money that an active MP gets too..

your right no one not even a police officer with civilian training can just join the army and become an MP(military police) without basic training. the reason is is a MP still has to be trained in war tactics and survival skills along with military conduct examples a MP has to know how to operate and shoot an m16 an m4 weapon along with how to wear approiate protection gear such as an iba Kevlar, night vision goggles the works that the civilian police academy does not teach.

there are also many different laws for the military world than in a civilian world. MP are also world wide unlike the common American police officer who has only been in America so an MP has to be trained on other countries laws also.

it goes the same for a military police officer too if a military police officer gets out of the army and wants to be a civilian police officer that person has to go through the police academy to become one due to the military rules, regulations and life style are very diff rent from the civilians.

As far as I know everyone has to go through boot camp. It wouldn't make much sense to let cops just jump into Iraq as that is an entirely different situation over there. Now in or to become a state trooper (in Indiana at least) you have to have military history, and an honorable discharge. Best of luck on your $20. Although a cop can enlist for a paramilitary group contracted by the government for security purposes, and not have to go through the US military boot camp.

You are both kind of right. There are US Polics Officers working in Iraq but not as Military Police. They are there training the Iraqi Police so they are kind of like advisors. For them to be actual Military Police working within the military they have to go through boot camp. I say, take $10 and give her $10. :)

Your Mom owes you 20 bucks!

No amount of civilian police experience replaces boot camp and military indoctrination.

Likewise, no amount of military police experience excuses a policeman from having to complete police academy. Unless he has completed the military equivalent, and state law accepts military police training in lieu of police academy.

MP is infact a rate in the military,
there are equivlents, im ex military so i know of the rates/jobs in the military. You would have to enlist and select "MP" as your job, and than go through bootcamp, and the like to find a place in Iraq as an MP. But the citizen equivilants, im not so well read on.

Anyway,
you are correct.
But there are other ways to be "like an MP",
i just havnt read on these programs much at all.

To be an MP you have to have gone thru MP school. However there are civilian police training the Iraqi's to. And sometimes doing similar jobs as MP's. The big kick in the nuts or slap in the face is that they make more in a month than i make in a year. For doing less work usually and living in better conditions with more freedoms. Gotta quit writing the more i think about it the more it pisses me off.

In order to join the military you have to go through boot camp. Whether it be air force, marines, navy, or army. You will have to go through boot camp even if your a cop. Trust me cops really don't have the training needed to survive in a real combat situation they aren't trained from POST in urban combat situations, or how to conduct patrols, run a platoon, company, squadron, etc.
