Muscle Milk is not a meal replacement. It can be used to give yourself nutrition before or after your workout. You're going to need carbohydrates for energy before a workout, and protein to help your muscles repair. A balance of both before is a good idea.

My workout lunch is a pear with cottage cheese. I sometimes make a sandwich on whole grain bread with lean meat. Avoid fat (fast food). French fries should be on your list of "not even if I was starving to death" foods. Simple carbohydrates that are deep-fried? Disgusting.

First, Muscle MIlk and any other meal replacement drink are not necessarily "muscle building" suppliments. such were designed to be used to replace a meal that one might otherwise have missed due to time constraints, lack of ability ot eat whole food due to location, etc. In all honesty, there are no real "muslce building "suppliments despite what the industry might be saying. Remember, they have "an axe to grind", a vested interest in getting you to buy there products and they will gladly say anything that they think will result in that end. Such "foods, food products and suppliments" are not regulated by any self regulatory agency, nor any governmental agency. The buzz here is, "Let the buyer be ware!"
If you are already consuming healthy foods (such as vegetables, whole grains, fruits and nuts, legumes, non- fat or low fat dariy products like yogurt and cottage cheese, fish (such as salmon and tuna), de-fatted chicken (skinned and debones, preferrably white meat) and turkey (see the recommendation for chicken) and occasional lean red meat for five to six small meals a day in a ration of 25/65/10 % protein, complex carbohydrates and healhty fats, and consuming one half to one gallon of clean water each day for at least six days of each week, then no, missing one meal and replacing it with Muslce Milk, or any other meal replacement drink, should not cause you irreplicable harm (i.e., you will live over it). You could even replace one of those five to six small meals each day with a meal replacement drink (if your pockeet book can afford it... these drink aren't cheap).
The most effective way to drink a meal is to mix it with water (if you are restricing your caloric intake) or non-fat or low -fat milk, blend it together and drink it at the time of the meal you are replacing it with. (Directions should be on the side of the container.)
Some meal replacement drink are better than others from a nutritional stand point. Some taste much better than others, too.
As good as any of them might be, none of them will ever be a good as real food eaten in as natural a state as possible with the exceptions for the fish, poultry and meat which should always be cook or prepared properly so as to destroy any bacteria or germs they might be carrying and to assist in your digestive process by beginning the process of breaking them down.
Good luck, good eating and good lifting.

there is no need to replace meal with protein shake because you should be eating small meals every 2-3 hours to optimize your metabolism. its the best after working out because protein repairs muscle - buy protein powder so you can mix it yourself with milk, juice or water. look for one where most calories come from protein - as little carbs as possible and at least 15g of protein.
