The MRI scan is the best non-invasive way to diagnose pinch nerves in the lower back, or sciatica.

i had a pinched nerve and i did not have an mri . the doctor diagnosed it by physical examination / touch . mri is an expensive test and you often have to wait a few days before you can schedule one. if the doctor is able to make the diagnosis without the test , you will get treated faster which is important since the pinched nerve can really hurt very bad. the good news is that he prescribed some anti inflamatory medicine (like aleve but stronger) and something for pain because it was really bad. i stayed in bed two or three days and then took it really easy. it took about five days and i was good as new. good luck to you.

I would think it would show a pinched nerve. A MRI is very expensive, over $2,000. Have you had a regular X-ray to see if its showed anything?
