2 Corinthians 8:13 (NLT)
13 Of course, I don’t mean you should give so much that you suffer from having too little. I only mean that there should be some equality.
2 Corinthians 9:7 (NLT)
7 You must each make up your own mind as to how much you should give. Don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully.
Galatians 5:1 (NLT)
1 So Christ has really set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.

Yes
Edit: Shame shame. A lot of self justification and what I think's going on here. Guess what. When you stand before God your opinion won't matter much will it. I can just see it. But God I gave it to the poor because I didn't trust your servents. And you will hear this. What they did with the money is not your concern. I'm asking you what you did with the money I gave you and if you followed my commandments concerning it.
But God the government took it and feeds the poor.
Hey feeding the poor is third tithe my friend. Yes I said third tithe. But oh golly gee pollyanna how would you know about three tithes since you dismiss the Old Testiment altogether.
Your tithes are for the Levites and the priesthood. In other words for upkeep of the church. Its not up to you how they spend it. They will answer for any misuse of it.

The Tithe specifically giving the first ten percent of their first fruits... was for the Jewish people to provide for the Levites, the priests of the Temple, who did no other work save for keeping up the temple. It is debatable if a Christian must tithe. The most important part is to be obedient and a good steward of what the Lord has Given to us. We are not bound our limited to giving 10% but it is a good bench mark. We need to ask the Lord what we should give and be obedient. He loves us and gives to us so we should freely give also. Giving should never be done out of obligation or out of seeking a blessing but just to bless others to help others and to further the work of the church. We should give are best... weither that is our Time our talents or our money. Where would the church be if all anyone did was give their money... for one their would be no one to collect the money much less anyway to use it... So pray... knowing that the Lord will lead you and guide you to exactly where you should give and how.
God bless you richly...

Yes. It is 10% of your wages before you do anything else with it. (pay bills, shop, etc) You do not have to tithe on gifts or tax returns, if you give anything extra after you tithe that is considered an "offering". And for women who stay at home etc, you do not have to tithe with your husbands paycheck, that is his job and decision to make. But if you babysit, clean houses etc you should tithe with the money you make. Hope that helped at all, I asked several people at Church about tithing and offerings not too long ago.

Tithe has been defined in many ways. it once meant that at the end of the year you gave 1/10th of what ever you had left over to the church.
This money (or crops) was used to feed the poor. Today the Government takes more than 10% to feed the poor so the church doesn't need as much.
I give money to many other organizations besides the church.

Yes Christians are meant to tithe.
It takes discipline and faith both of which are needed by you and me!
I could give you a longer reason. Email me if someone here doesn't give it to you.
For that guys answeer just above me, Jesus referred to tithing when he said to the paharasess that they tithe their cumin and mint and herbs and yet neglest merct grace and love, and said that we should both tithe and be loving

Christians are called to do two things,
Love the Lord you God with all your heart all your mind and all you strength.
Love your neighbor as yourself.
The rest of the bible falls under those two things.
If you are following those commandments, you are probably tithing money or time or wisdom....since we are called to love with heart mind and spirit, I believe we can tithe from all of those things as well.
blessings in Christ~ vicki

The answer is no.
True Christians follow the advice of 2 Corinthians 9:7
"Let each one do just as he has resolved in his heart, not grudgingly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."

Catholics are the unique Christians. the 1st church, which Christ began became into the Catholic church. For the 1st thousand years, there became into only one Christian Church. In 1054, it chop up into 2 branches, the jap Orthodox Catholic Church and the Roman Catholic Church. there have been in basic terms 2 Christian branches for yet another 500 years. In 1518, Martin Luther began a third branch, Protestantism. The third branch splintered into many denominations. you're probably recognizing that Catholics are no longer Protestants. the unique Christian Church remains Catholic. The Amish is without doubt considered one of the numerous Protestant denominations. Jehovah Witnesses are no longer a Protestant denomination yet an offshoot of Christianity because of the fact they have faith Jesus is the angel Michael and not the Son of God.
