I am going to NYC on June 12-15. I have not yet booked a room. I would like to stay in Midtown. Any advice on how to get a decent room?

Stay in Jersey. Seriously. You will not find a cheap hotel in Midtown - unless you wanna rent it by the hour, or your idea of "cheap" is a couple hundred a night.

I have a friend who stayed at the Gershwin Hotel, it was very cheap, so look into that-- its in a safe area as well. Its on the same block as the Musuem of Sex and like 3 blocks away from F.I.T,, mostly people in their 20s stay there.
Be careful of other cheap hotels..
