5., because salt intake is the independent variable, and hypertension is the dependent variable. therefore, other variables (e.g. calorie intake) must be constant to be sure that any change in the dependent variable (hypertension) is due to the independent variable (salt intake) only.

1. I agree, just change one variable, use the high salt 1500 kcal diet.

2. Make sure you randomly assign to groups, or assign using a protocol so it is random

3. I suggest having a person who does not know which group they are assigned to measure the BPs using a standardized method to eliminate bias

4. And this is the most important - consider the ethics of what you are doing., You are deliberately exposing people to a high salt diet with the expectation that it will raise their BP, which is unhealthy. What if one has a heart attack or stroke. Is the NEW knowledge gained worth the risk.. In a hospital or university you would need to run this by scientific review and human use review and worry about informed consent, confidentiality and so on. I assume you are in high school or undergrad, so you don't have those hurdles, but make sure you think it through and talk with your teacher before you start.
Good luck

usually salt contains sodium, and it's an underlying factor in water retenction affecting central blood pressure. considering that you are undergoing a low calorie diet, you need to include regular exertion in conjunction with the planned diet. sodium intake is good and it's bad depending what type of scenerio you have. I would say the socond group would be high sodium and potassium,1800 calorie+cardio. you should not go below 1500, it would control bp, but will affect other areas. well the one would be 5
