I am assuming five things:
1) Your dog is male;
2) Your dog "humps" or mounts other males;
3) You think you know a lot about dogs, but really have little experience;
4) You have some odd quirk about anything homosexual, suggesting latent tendencies in yourself.
5) There is no fifth item (sorry, couldn't resist a Monty Python reference here).
All dogs, male or female, will hump to show dominance. If a dog feels it is less dominant or equal to another, or if it has been well trained by its owner, the humping will not occur. But if a dog feels the need to establish dominance (to be the "alpha" in a pack or at least to move up in a pack), humping is one way.
This is NOT how dogs mate. If you've ever seen dogs mate, you will realize that humping is not it.
When establishing dominance, a male dog will hump other males and a female will hump other females. It's about power, not sex (and yes, sometimes a male dog may get aroused in this act, but again, it's not how dogs mate).
As for a dog being "gay", I do not think this occurs for this species, at least in the way you think of "gay". However, many animals do exhibit same sex behavior in the wild. It's only the human species that has such an aversion to it.
Bottom line: do a better job at training your dog. You can help break him of his humping if you work at it. But it's far more important that you establish yourself as the "alpha" in the household through PROPER obedience training techniques, and that he is a loved and cared for dog.
But hey, if you really do have a gay dog, maybe he can give you some decorating tips! :-D

So called "gay" behavior in dogs is usually just dominance play. If you are in this situation, I'd suggest you immediately sell the dog to someone who has the common sense not to worry about a dog's sexuality when considering whether to keep it or not.

Sorry ,but there is no such thing as a dog being gay.If other dogs are riding a pet of the same sex,evidently the pet being rode has some type of urinary track infection and has the odor of a female in season.

I don't think that dogs can be gay...?
It is normal for all animals... dogs especially to like both sexes of other dogs. Dogs hump everything... even furniture.
Don't return your dog... take pride in the fact that he has a high sex drive!!!

Neither. What does that have to do with the dog's hunting abilities? A dog is a dog.

Dogs hump other dogs of the same sex for domination. They are not gay. If this dog humped another dog, it means he is dominant. If your dogs humped him, they are doing it to establish their domination over the new one. Either way, who cares? I hope this is not a serious question.

This has to be one of the craziest questions I have seen on Yahoo Answers!
What difference would it make to the dogs abilities even if it was gay which I highly doubt it is.
Geez thanks for 2 points and a darn good laugh!
