hi i have red hair and very pale skin and a few freckles (typical red haired girl!) and yes i burn. its just our skin. its too pale. i go a tiny bit brown on my shoulders but most of the time - burn. so i hate the sun. I dont think we'd suit a tan though! its our genes. But i have a bf who has very pale skin and black hair and he burns. but the majority of red heads do burn cant do anything about it- use moisturising tan!

People with ginger hair originate from Scotland I think. Stay out of the sun and keep looking good, I don't think you can get darker if you have red hair, maybe more freckles!! Red heads are the best.

You have fewer melonin cells than darker people. Don't try and tan. instead do everything you can to not burn and if you would like a little colour use fake tan, the daily tinting one. You will be delighted you stayed out of the sun when your older.

you have no melinuim (not sure of spelling)which turns your skin darker, that's why as a red haired person you have a lower intolerance to pain and when having surgery you will require more anaesthetic, as for sun burn you have to slap on the factor 50 higher if you can get it wear a hat and stay white which for red haired people looks lovely, i have a red-haired daughter so i think all red-hairs are beautiful

People with ancestors from hot countries have had something called melanin passed down to them. This is what the skin builds up to protect itself from the son. It turns skin darker when it needs to. It's unlikely, being a redhead, to have ancestors from hot countries. This is basically it but look into it further if you like. It's just what I knopw from somewhere.

I'm ginger, my ancestors were Irish though. I burn and get freckles but that's about it!
