1. Why would I be in the middle of nowhere hiking WITH my cat?
2. I wouldn't want to risk my life, but I think I wouldn't think that I am risking my life. The instinct of protecting my baby would come first, and I would try to do everything possible to save it-without risking too much, because if I was killed how would I save him? But I would distract the other animal so that the cat could get away. I have already been badly bitten while trying to break up a dog fight between my dog (who was not in any real danger other than getting bitten) and another dog who attacked him.

i would do my best to save the cat but not risk my life i am a mother and i have a larger responsibility to them than to my animals. i did put myself at risk once for my horse who had fallen in the middle of a frozen pond and unable to get up, i scooted on my belly to reach him and slowly pulled him to the edge by his harness, ,i could hear the ice cracking the whole time a round us, after i had done this i realized the danger i had put myself in and what would have happened if the ice had broke through with us, my kids would have lost their mother.
and with the scenario that you gave it would only mean the both of us would die because humans are no match for a bear and a wolf and this would not accomplish nothing

i am a cat lover myself in fact i've been missing the same cat i've lost years aago although i have new ones now. if it was another cat, a dog, a large chicken perhaps i would do my best to save my cats using what 's available around, a stick, pebble...or with my own strength. but...if its undefeatable bear, lion...i would try to distract it but not risking my life.i'm a my-mother-father lover more than just a cat lover...

I would get away as fast as I could. I love my cat dearly but I would not fight such an animal to save her life. I would feel very sad and guilty if something hapened to her, but a human life is worth more.

To a large degree yes, but I make sure the risks to my cat are minimal.

I wouldn't. I love my cat dearly. I would definitley want to have an injury rather than my cat being injured or killed.

Let's be realistic here.

If you were about to die wouldn't you let the animal die rather than you?

I mean come on. You would be scared sh*tless.

No. I wouldn't risk my life for any animal.

Well, even if you did try to stand up against the bear.. what if it managed to chase and kill your dog afterwards anyways?

My cat can climb a tree to get away, so as far as I'm concerned, he's on his own.
