Now that I have your attention, what would happen if Joe Gibbs Racing went to Toyota? It would sure make Ginn Racing look like a more likely home for Jr, as reported in jayski. It looks like the silly season is starting early this year. A bunch of other stuff in there about Menard possibly pulling out of DEI and sponsoring Robbie again. Here's the link for you to read for yourself.

Yesterday they had also said that Mark Martin might go to a full schedule next year and that Sterlling Marlin's team would just be part time, freeing up the 14 car for Jr to go into for the top 35 lock at the beginning of next year. Now it sounds like MM is backing off the full ride deal but he is so wishy washy you never know.

***Gibbs has absolutely no sense if he goes to Toyota. He might as well start drinking beer. I would rather Jr. stay with DEI if he does not sign with a Chevrolet team other than Ginn. I might soften my stance a little if it is true that Mark Martin is planning on racing full time for Ginn next year. Jr. has a lot of respect for Mark Martin and Mark Martin would be a good driver to learn under.***

Well, I believe that Gibbs going to Toyota will not be effected if they do it next year in 2008. It depends on the drivers, not the cars. Tony Stewart's contract runs up to 2009. If he runs for Joe Gibbs in 2008 with Toyota, it will not effect him.

Ginn will have to take Jr. if there is no other team. Roush is out of drivers. Hendrick already has 3 very good guys and does not want to turn down Casey Mears, and Robert Yates is not a good team for Jr.

Menard has to leave if Jr. is leaving. So does Martin. Neither Martin or Paul can run a race team.

Gibbs likes to change manufactures every few years so this isn't surprising.
Ginn has $$$, Chevy engines from Henderick, and will let Bud on the car, all the things that Jr. wants, so this relationship could work, the older vets on the team (Marlin, Nemechek, Martin), could also help teach Jr a little more.
Menard will either buyout DEI or go help Robby, this isn't surprising, Teresa isn't using John to her best ability since John has experience in leading race teams (lead teams in IRL and CART). John of course would take his son with him.
John also is the founder of Menards and of course has $$$$.

Ginn is the leading candidate for Junior right now. I think Coach Gibbs should give Toyota at least another uear to iron out the wrinkles before making a jump like that!

Steve... I think you just like to spark controversy. If Gibbs went Toyota (which won't happen) he'd be abandoning the new Chevy engine package that shows a lot of promise and have him back with the "also rans". Joe & J.D. both are far too smart to think seriously about doing that.
I've read all the articles about Bobby Ginn saying what all he'd do to woe Jr to Ginn, but I just don't see that happening, either.
I may be wrong (I'm wrong a lot), but I believe that Jr signing with Childress is all but a done deal. Richard isn't talking... Junior isn't talking... that in itself causes me to think there's more brewing than anyone but Jr, Kelly and Childress knows.
One thing is for sure, buddy... we'll all know real soon. Last I figured... we're about two weeks into that 30 days Junior mentioned. The suspense is killin me!!

It sounds to me like Mike Mulhern at the Winston-Salem Journal has a rich fantasy life. I have wondered about Penske though, because of the fact that he owns so many Toyota dealerships. Having followed Roger Penske and his various cars and drivers for year, I would be really surprised if he merged with Michael Waltrip Racing. He has always built and run top notch, highly professional operations. He does not need an amateurish start-up like MWR to make a move to Toyota.

I don't think that would be a good move for Gibbs. I think they are running too well with the Chevrolets to make that move. It would be hard to imagine the Home Depot Toyota.
