I think I live according to my own standards. I have no right to force my beliefs on anyone else through our laws.

USA.
Our society is too restrictive on paper, but in reality it works just fine. Here is why.
We have legislation for everything. You need a permit to do just about anything. There are punishments and fines for every conceivable violation. Our tax system is very unfair. Our society favors the wealthy, and disenfranchises the poor. You can't truly own land anymore, and you are very restricted in what you can do on the land you "sort of own."
The upside is that most of what is legislated in our Country is only enforced if you make an obnoxious nuisance of yourself. It easy to learn how to "fly under the radar" so you can soft of do whatever you want. There are also many opportunities here if you've got some brains, and virtually ANYONE can "make it" if they work hard and get a few lucky breaks.
In the end, it basically evens out, and the unwritten rule in America seems to be, "you do what you want, and I'll do what I want, and as long as we are more or less respectful of each other, we'll live and let live."

Well I think some drugs and things make our society unstable and if I had full control I would put those people in jail to protect all of society if the world was perfect. IT'S NOT! So the people must work this stuff out between themselves. Many druggies have more common sense than some of the religious robots I have met. They would go to jail too. But IT'S NOT. We need to work it out on our own over time. It'll happen. USA, Maine

USA .... way too permissive. Justify? Well, it's like this: in a country where the leading social attitude is that anything goes and if it feels good do it, well, anything DOES go and as a result people learn to accept abnormal behavior as kinda normal. When this occurs, society as a whole becomes anesthetized to feelings of horror, disbelief and on the flip side, kindness. Once that happens society begins to lose respect for all life. Essentially, the country has become a place of ME, ME, ME and again, ME. This individualistic attitude encourages the breakdown of the social norms which glue us together as a country of individuals with similar goals. Without similar goals, such as freedom for all, not just me, freedom of speech for all, not just me, food on the table for all, not just me, adequate health care for all, not just me, etc....there is no longer a sense of belonging to something bigger than one's self. This results in a lack of caring for the things that our country represents. Families breakdown, children and whole adult lives are abandoned to homelessness, not enough people feel the responsibility to be a part of our country' defense, people lose belief and confidence in our governing process and so on. Pretty much where we are today. Historically, our country, when the majority adhered to societal norms of decency, respect of property and life, the concept of "we are all in this one life together", social responsibility, etc we were a much stronger country as a whole. The last two generations have seen a huge increase in permissiveness and our country is floundering with a lack of conviction as to which course to travel. I rest my case.

We enjoy freedoms which tend to permit us to trod upon the rights of others. The protections of the Bill of Rights of the Constitution of the United States is a formidable set of Federally mandated freedoms second to none on the Earth.

HA! Too strict? Man, people are funny. Did you know that up to some time ago, if you showed your ankles you were considered to be very umm, how do I put this, you know slutty? We are a generation that's plain disgusting. Allthe media is pushing on us is SEX, SEX, SEX. Goodness, people don't understand that it NEEDS to be saved for marriage! We are disrespectful and I believe that someone said that if God doesn't end the world soon, he owes Sadam and Gamora (sorry for the spelling) and apology.

Take a look at the world.
I am from the USA, but I speak of the whole world, a world ignorant of and in rebellion against its Creator.

I'd have to say too permissive. There are just too many idiots in our society that are not being held accountable for their actions.
I live in America, in the Midwest.
