It depends on the number of horses in the race and the bookie you placed the bet with.

In a really big race, it's sometimes first 4 and 1/4 odds, so you'd get 5/2 (10/4 - 1) on a place and (assuming you put £5 each way, i.e. £10 in total) you'll get £12.50 back.

Simplest way to find out is to collect your winnings!

you should net anywhere from 5 pounds to 15 pounds. at worse you should lose 2 lbs to breaking even. lol :)
